Full Version: Tell Me How Much You Love Your 5D
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Cameras

I ordered mine yesterday and it's in Chicago right now. I'm having a hard time not refreshing the Fed Ex website every few minutes. I feel like a 5 year-old on Christmas Eve! rolleyes.gif

This was meant to be a backup camera, but I keep reading how much everyone LOVES theirs, so I'm preparing myself (and my current body) for the possibility that it might become my primary camera. (I feel so disloyal).

So, share your reviews (the good and the bad), share your pics...anything to keep me occupied until mine arrives!

Hey Lisa! smile.gif

I was in the same boat. My 5D was supposed to be a 2nd camera to my Mark II N, but my last wedding probably 80% of the images were shot with the 5D and the other 20% the Mark II!

I think you'll love it. There's just a certain feel from the images with that camera. It's really great, can't wait to hear how you like it! smile.gif

I have a friend who says the D stands for Delicious- he's absolutely right. You'll love your 5 Delicious.

Ah, that's classic. laughing.gif

Somewhere along the way I nicknamed my current camera "Big Daddy". (I refer to it as if it is a person...I have issues). I told hubby last night I would have to come up with a nickname for the 5D. Maybe I can work "delicious" in somehow. That cracks me up.

I'm waiting for one too. I thought it was coming today. Guess I'll see it tomorrow.

I have a friend who's named his "Prince of Darkness", because it's so good when the lights are low.

I am with CHris on this.. When I bought my 5d , I thought it will replaced the 20d that I have and become my 2nd camera. but instead my MarkIIN is my second.. I love 5 D a lot, The last 2 weddings I did more on my 5d than the 1D.

The only thing that I hate, with 12 megapixel and shooting raw.. the files really slowing my core2duo with 2 gig RAM.. maybe I just need another super fast computer tongue.gif

*singing* I'm hopelessly in love with you! *end singing*

LOVE my 5D. Of course, I was a Nikon user and then switched to the 5D, so that may have something to do with it, too. It rocks the high ISOs.

I'm just waiting for any camera body to show up. I sold all my Nikon gear this week, and I have absolutely no camera to shoot with. I've got one lens and some flashes, but little good that does me. One 5D and two 30ds are on the way. And, of course, more lenses.

UGH!! The Fed Ex guy just showed up with a print order, and I happened to ask him about my expected delivery tomorrow. Come to find out I didn't put a special request in for "Saturday" delivery, so it won't be here until Monday. I'm so disappointed! I paid for 2 day delivery on Thursday...silly me thinking it would be here on Sat.

Now you all have to keep me occupied until Monday. biggrin.gif

oh sadness. i am getting ready to head out for a shoot with my 5-Delicious also. Mmm. the images are so yummy i can taste them.

I'll shed a tear for you, too, then.

I see you're in Peoria...I was born in Elgin. thumbsup.gif

5D......How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

1. Best color of any camera I have shot with.
2. Nice BIG RAW files.....printed several 40x60s that no one believes are digital.
3. Low noise even at high ISOs.
4. 5D......it just sounds good.
theGreatDivorce
I thought I'd like it, but I wasn't sure about the hype.

For once, something I bought exceeded my expectations and lived up to the hype smile.gif It's a great camera.

This is why I love it.

eh, the 5D is okay.... hehehe. I just rented the 70-200 lens to try it out with my camera and tomorrow I have an event to shoot, I'm super excited!

You know, you can go to Fed Ex and pick up your package if it's already there.

I'm still waiting to hear from my accountant to see if I can buy one-
If I decide to get one, I can't sort out whether I want the 24-70 or the 100 macro

(to go along with my 17-55 and 70-200 nikon lens')

what do you all think?
I do have an old manual 55/macro2.8 for that macro thang'

but I thought the 100 macro would be so much easier to maneuver
than the 70-200

I must admit I am a bit nervous about shooting with both till the end of the year
when I can decide what I want to do-I'll sort it out-

btw-I HATE when you think you are getting something FED X on Friday only to find out you have to wait through the weekend till Monday......

what lens' do you plan to use with it?

I'm working on that. They're giving me the run around.

I have the 24-70, 70-200, 50mm 1.4, 50mm 2.5 macro, and 15mm fisheye. I'd like to get the 100mm 2.8 macro and sell the one I'm using now, but I needed the camera first. If you already have a macro I'd go with the 24-70. It's a shame to have a FF camera and not have the lens to take advantage of it! (But then again, I love to shoot landscapes and I'd be lost without my 24-70).

I would argue that no camera beats the 5D at the moment. Even with the advent of the 1D Mark III, the 5D's combination of full frame perspective, 12mp resolution and great high ISO performance is too hard to pass up.

That it has a detachable battery grip is a plus, too, when I want to take it to a family/friends gathering and don't want to look like I'm on the job wink.gif

And the ergonomics are just fine, much better than with the 30D or XTi. If the camera fits, you must acquit!
