Full Version: Bridge v. Lightroom
OpenSourcePhoto > GetIt > Brilliant Bridge and Lightroom Presets

I've worked with Lightroom and I've made presets...but it doesn't seem to automatically adjust the individual pictures like David Jay shows in his Brilliant tutorial. I know his tutorial is in Bridge, but coming from the same company I would think they would put that great technology into the stand alone product of Lightroom. Am I missing a checkbox or something that will allow it to individually change pictures in LR? Thanks.

There is an option when you import you photos. In the Information to apply area. There is an area that says apply setting. Make sure you select what setting you want to auto add upon imorting and it will do it.

You can do similar automation with Lightroom but I was surprised that Adobe took out the 4 AUTO tabs that it had in CS2. I dunno why they'd remove those in CS3 and Lightroom. Seems silly to me but as I learn Lightroom and CS3 I think we'll be able to adjust for it in new ways.

I was kinda curious about that too actually!

I read here: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc33154

"Shift-Double-click on an individual slider to set it to "auto". Double-click to set it to its default value."

Has anyone tried this (I don't have Lightroom or CS3 yet) and found that it operated in the same manner as the AUTO tabs in CS2?

Just tried this in Lightroom and it doesn't work. However it does work in Camera RAW in Bridge CS3.

So what's the verdict here for Lightroom users, David? Will they work properly?

David,

You and your crack team may have already figured this out, but once you have saved a template you can go in and edit it manually to set individual tone items to automatic and shut off others. The templates are saved as text files with a .lrtemplate extension and can be found by right clicking on the template and selecting Show in Explorer (or something like that). Within these configuration files there are individual configuration lines for each of the old Auto boxes.

For example, I have a preset where I set AutoTone and AutoExposure to false and set AutoBrightness, AutoContrast, and AutoShadows to true.

I also added lines to set HighlightRecovery, Exposure and FillLight to 0 to clear out any problem setting introduced by a previous Auto Tone.

I really hope Adobe brings back the individual Auto boxes for LR1.1 and the next version of ACR. Dropping them was a huge step back.

I am still in the dark ages of using Canon raw software for processing my raw files, and then just manips in Adobe 7.0. Am thinking of getting Lightroom, but am wondering if I wouldn't be better off with Bridge. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
