The history of this conversion begins
here.
This past Fri. I walked into the Apple store in Schaumburg IL and I bought me a Mac. I was originally going for the black MacBook, and I did buy it along with a 1Gb mem upgrade. However, in the time they were upgrading the ram, I saw a table with open box items, and they had a MacBook Pro going for $1799. I made the life of the sales girl a bit hard 'cuz I asked if I could switch them, and after all was said and done, i walked out with a 15" MacBook Pro for the price of $1783 including tax, after my corp discount. The black MacBook, with 2Gb of mem was $1720, so for $60 more I got a much better computer. Already looked into Newegg for memory and 1Gb for the my new MBP costs $80. Needlesss to say I am a happy camper.
At this point I am in more of a transition, and I won't be using the MBP for any photo stuff yet 'cuz I am swamped with the church directory I am starting in 2 weeks (going to sleep at around 2 or 3 am. every day preping for the thing), but I am learning little by little. What little I have seen so far, I love, and I think I am staying put. Hopefully I find that it's as stable and solid as everyone claims and wont' start having problems with it any time soon.

I just transitioned this past august, and it was easy to learn the new OS, and I couldn't be happier. My PC actually makes me cringe when I have to use it on the road (I got a desktop mac, and my pc is a laptop).
You're psyched!!!

I am really loving it so far. Just the little things that are so convinient. Last night I installed a widget that displays the next 7 days of events off of my Google calendar, so now I have that on my machine only a slide of the mouse away, without having to go online and login and see my activities. I am sure I am going to have many more discoveries like this that will make my life easier.

I have a new MBP. My desktop is a PC. I'm still struggling to see the "light", but I'm not giving up. Right now I just seem quicker and more efficient on my PC, but I also attribute a lot of that to the fact that I've been with windows since inception. Also, this is literally the first time I've even touched a Mac.
The thing I REALLY like about Mac, is the fact that a family can upgrade all their computers (OS) for MUCH LESS than windows. The other thing is I can honestly say that the design that goes into the machines is super cool. After carrying my very heavy brick of a PC power supply for years, I was psyched when I saw how travel friendly the Mac PS was. Very cool. But bottom line, I love my 30" monitor and Mac is the only laptop maker smart enough to include a dual-link video card.
I'm experiencing much more resistance with the OS, though, but I'm looking forward to the new release. I have found that a lot of the things I think I can't do, there really is a way to do it, it's just not always as intuitive as some say.

I understand your point of view. As far as Windows was concerned, I never did anything too complicated or advanced with it like networks, sharing files, printers, and such, but I can already see some great benefits of OS X over XP (haven't tried Vista yet). Just over lunch today, I setup my calendars in iCal, one for personal, one for our business, and one for the kids school activities. I loved the simplicity of it, simply click the + button on the bottom left and name the calendar. I remember when I created a second calendar in Outlook for my church activities, it took me at least 1 hour to figure it out.
I am still learning about the OS. Another thing I found last night was the terminal window. For me, in the case of working with many files across different folders, you just can't beat a good command line interface, and being that at work I use Solaris, I am right at home with the term window. Now I know XP has a DOS look alike, but it's a long shot from the elegance and capabilities of UNIX. I am sure that the more I delve into it, the more I am going to fall in love it with.
Oh, and just not having the feeling of not knowing whether or not something was going to happen after installing or updating something and rebooting, is a feeling I'll be happy to do without.
As the McDonalds commercial goes, "I am lovin' it"
