I am in the process of booking a really lovely client right now. She only had one additional request.....they want a fun/fake photobooth.

For 2 hours, they want to set up a backdrop, a light, and a camera on a tripod with a remote trigger so that guests can take pictures of themselves. it sounds like a really fun idea! and i think i've heard that some of you have done this before...

of course, I have none of this equipment (i do no studio work) and i am currently a solo act so I wouldn't want to have to babysit/setup this equipment too. So I told her that I couldn't personally do it, but that I would try to help her locate someone in the area who could.

Right now she mostly wants quotes to see if it's something they can squeeze in the budget. She should be a fun bride to work with, and the reception is in a great restaurant in fort mason (san francisco).

Anyone? Even just someone who normally does portraits and has the equipment? You'd just be standing there showing people how to press the trigger....pretty easy (once it's all set up).

i don't think their budget would afford an actual photobooth rental....

Can't help you with any "photo booth" type info but here's another idea: I shot a wedding where they had a polaroid camera, plenty of film & a guest book on a table. I know it's not the same thing at all but guests used the camera & then stuck their photos in the book and left a message with the it. If they don't have the budget for a booth maybe they may have to settle for something else.

I went to this bridal show and they had this vendor that's based in NorCal that does the sort of thing you're talking about......backdrop, lights, remote trigger. They were exactly what I was thinking of doing for my wedding. The only thing is they cost as much as a photobooth. But I thought I'd mention it anyway.....maybe for future reference. If you believe that you can hire a capable assistant or a second shooter to man the booth, I'd tell her $2000 and let the chips fall where they may.

She probably won't book it, but if she does, that will allow you to buy quite a bit of lighting gear, a backdrop, etc. and then you'll be able to offer the service in the future.

What about Dane Sanders' "Simple Photo Booth" (http://simplephotobooth.com/)? I've seen pictures on a lot of the blogs from WPPI and they look awesome!! I would suggest that, the pictures are awesome and I think they would have a blast with it! I know I want one for my house... I'm gonna have to start saving I guess! thumbsup.gif

Thanks...I am pretty sure this is out of her budget, but it's a good reference link. :-)

Interesting idea, but she's already booking me (in the process) as the wedding photographer....and I have already mentioned that since I don't have any of the equipment, etc then I'll just help her look for a separate contractor for the event. I don't want to offer this service. smile.gif
