Full Version: Lexar write problems...

Until recently, we had been able to get away with using a combination of 512mb and 1gb cards. Now that we have switched to a RAW workflow, we have gotten more 1gb and more recently 2gb cards. Weird thing is, we have occasionally run into trouble where, when shooting a number of pictures in quick succession (particularly using the motor drive), no images are being recorded. (We had this happen yesterday at a critical point in the wedding day and fortunately Amber was also shooting and got the shots...) Have you all had any problems like this? We haven't had this kind of problem until recently - the cameras had been fine until the last month or so, and then they both started doing the same thing!

Is it the cards? We are using Lexar 80x cards... I want to make sure that we don't miss any more shots, and secondly, want to make sure that we don't have defective camera bodies to try to sell as we switch to Canon...

I doubt it's the camera....It may be the card. Do you try to view the images right after shooting? I know Canon cameras have problems with the 80x Lexar cards when you do that (rarely, but it does happen...)

This year I've had a few problems with Lexar cards and am looking forward to making a complete switch over to the SanDisk Extreme III cards this week. I'm thinking we'll purchase 8-10 of the 2 gig cards.

Nathan,
Here's a link to information about Lexar 80x firmware updates. I've been using Lexar since first purchasing a digital SLR a few years ago, and at some point during a shoot, they will lock up the camera so that I can't change the aperture or focus point. Canon thought is was the vertical grip all this time and has fixed or replaced a couple of them. But now it looks like it's been the CF cards all along. I don't know if I'll have them replaced by Lexar, or make a switch to SanDisk Extreme.
