I have checked 300 times over, and for some reason, when I open up images in PS, it asks me if I want to convert them from their embedded profile of Adobe RGB to the working space profile of SRGB. What gives? Did I accidentally screw something up?

Just so you know, I have a D200 and PSCS2. Thanks so much for any help!!!

Mine keeps doing that too. It's been driving me nuts. It never happened before and then about a onth ago it started doing that with pictures I had already saved (I save them like they are) and it will switch back and forth within the same wedding. Hmmm...

Do you think it is more of a camera thing or a PS thing?
rowena
Are you working in sRGB or RGB in PS? What is your camera set to? The reason that pops up is because there's a diff. between what your working space and camera is set to.

Go to Photoshop > color settings

make changes accordingly

then uncheck ask when opening to disable the pop up menu

If I'm off here someone please correct, I'm not an expert. HTH

The strange thing is that mine shows a mismatch from camera to working space when I've clearly chosen sRGB in PS and color space on my 5D the same. So, I just tell it to convert to my working space... hope that's correct.

Hope an expert chimes in soon.

I get that when I shoot in RAW. When I shoot in .jpg, it's not a problem.

Yes! We are doing the exact same thing...I have chosen sRGB in the camera and on the computer, but it is still asking me to convert...it used to not do that, and the picture would just open. Now, I am just annoyed that I have to click yes for each one for it to convert. Just takes longer. smashpc.gif

Thanks for all of your reponses...if we don't have an answer, at least we know we are not alone in this!

When you shoot in raw you don't techincally have a colorspace. You can choose the colorspace when you process in bridge, or CameraRAW. Choose the colorspace in the bottom left section of the window.

One note for Canon shooters.
Canon doesn't embed any color profiles in JPGs. If you select the color space in camera, it only changes the file name it is going to generate: IMG_XXXXX.JPG for sRGB and _IM_XXXXX.JPG for Adobe RGB color spaces. YOU have to assign the color space when you open an image for the first time in PS.
I use Downloader Pro and it does that on the fly when I download my images, plus it rotates them too.

Alex, thanks so much for the info! It's no wonder. Am I doing it right then? I set PS to sRGB working space, under color managment I choose convert to working RGB and then uncheck the "ask when opening" so that menu won't pop up?

Another question: Under advanced mode > advanced controls there's are boxes that say desaturate monitor colors by––– and blend RGB colors using gamma–––– what are those for? Wondering cause my monitor is not matching my laptop and when WHCC printed out a test print it was off and I have calibrated both monitors.

Clue anyone? thx
