But now that we are (I'm making a contract right now) I need to know how to handle to the sales tax. Do I charge collect Minnesota Sales Tax (since the money is being sent here), of do I charge tax from the state where the wedding is being held?

The states currently are Virginia and Louisiana.

I live in CT - very close to the NY border and have done a bit (not a lot, but some) business in NY... I was told (by the person at the dept of revenue and by my accountant) that you are not required to collect sales tax if the job is performed in or products are shipped to another state. They both told me that the only time you have to worry about it is when you are continually doing business in the same states... then you must file a tax cert with that state as well.

That's of my understanding too. So if you have an OOT address, no sales tax, because all products will be shipped and no tax on labor in the state of MO and NY I know for sure but it varies state to state.

Technically it's up to the client to file and pay a "Use Tax" with the Dept of Revenue on out-of-state taxable purchases, at least that's how it's supposed to work in Florida.

Someday I'll collect all my B&H receipts and.... um...... Am I a bad person?
