Just got an email - Mpix now offering prints for 19 cents/ea. if you don't require color correction, much like WHCC thrifty proofing.

Hmmm... that'll save me, what, $30/wedding over WHCC? I still don't know, I LOVE WHCC's service/quality/turnaround time.

Personally, if Im just getting a 4x6 proof set, where there will be a ton of prints then I go through Mpix. Anything else is whcc.

mpix is super fast, I only used them once but I placed an order for 100 8 x 10's with overnight shipping (only $10) at around 3pm, almost 4pm and I had them in hand less than 24 hours later (which was critical for this particular client).

So yea! They get my vote for the occasional rush order! WHCC sent me some test prints that look pretty good too, so many people have so many good things to say about both...

+1 Same sitch...same result.

Now why did they have to go and do that?!?! I left MPIX for WHCC because WHCC was saving me money and I convinced myself the print was just better overall. I'm still doing some of my personal stuff over there occassionally, but business prints at WHCC. I also like that WHCC was printed a copyright on the back of the images. And I love their customer service! But since I'm not really doing full proof sets anymore, it's not really a big savings to me.

I really don't need another thing to second guess myself. Oh, here we go again.... LOL

hmmm, I think mpix is super fast, but when I ordered from them, my photos were dark and had a redish hue to them . . . exact same prints sent to a different lab came out perfect. Both orders did not use colour correction. Was I the only person not happy with mpix?

I've enjoyed using Mpix for everything. Fast turn-around, and great print quality.

My only gripe is that if you do not select overnight shipping - your stuff ships via US Mail. I came back from a day off, and found that the mail man had left the MPIX package at the base of our store's front door. On a busy street with lots of pedestrians... I'm suprised that they were still there. Imagine your client's private images picked up by anyone who wandered by...

After that, I've always paid for overnight shipping via FedEx, just because they wouldn't leave a package without a signature.. As with all things - your mileage may vary (like say if you have a postal carrier with a lick of common sense).

Thankfully it's not an issue since I have a PO box, everything's pick-up. I like Shelby's idea of the 4x6 proof set from Mpix and all other prints/products from WHCC.
MeeksDigital
yeah, and you get what you pay for. mpix's prints are by no means as good or as consistent as WHCC. WHY are they offering $0.19 prints? BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE LEAVING THEM FOR WHCC and I'm not kidding.

its the consumer store front of Millers which is just as good of a lab as WHCC.

but mpix doesnt have customer service like WHCC now do they? sorry, last time i was there, i didnt't see a phone number i could call to ask them questions about their products or report a problem with an order, which actually happened quite frequently when i used them.

yes, they are a consumer lab. thats exactly right. and once again, i believe that you get what you pay for. hence using WHCC. i value their service and their products, and mpix not only disappointed me, but i could tell that they couldnt care less whether that was the case or not. they're sellouts, thats all there is to it.

Trevor, can you back up/prove any of what you're saying? I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm genuinely curious since I'm looking to stick with one of the two.
AKS
I have to kind of agree with Trevor here. I used to use mpix the first year in business. Then I got hooked on whcc. There is a difference, but on 4x6 maybe not that big of a deal. They do have a little bit of a reddish hue to them and at christmas time I had forgot to include a few prints in a big order for a client. I knew that mpix would be very fast to get it here with only $5.00 extra for next day delivery instead of whcc perhaps would have been $20.00. . When the mpix prints came, I could definately tell a difference in the prints. The same 5x7 from whcc looked much better then mpix did. Also, I really do like to have my studio name on the back of my photographs from whcc.
If I had a bunch of 4x6 and not that big of a deal, I might go with mpix. I do think that lots of us that started out with using them are moving to either whcc or color inc or what ever lab of your choice.

sure, and btw i wasn't trying to be an ass either... but sometimes i come off like that because i really am a bit ticked about mpix lol.

they were the first lab i started out with - i liked their stuff for a while, the metallic prints were cool etc, but i started to notice some color inconsistency issues between prints of the same images if i ordered them a few weeks apart or something like that. i also ordered 5 large prints to display in my studio - 16x24" on matteboard, and almost all of them had sloppy edges on them, like the prints were cut by hand with nothing to guide them or anything. also (since these prints were ordered over the span of 3 different orders) one of the prints wasn't even mounted like i had asked/paid for. it took a couple of days (in the middle of the week) for "customer service" to get back to me, and eventually they re-did the print and matted it, but it was about as sloppy as the others. I didn't send those back because I was just so fed up at that point to even talk to them again. a few of my other orders i was shorted prints, and i also was very unhappy with B&W reproduction on their "standard" paper which SUCKED. it had a blueish hue and looked reaallly crummy. you would have to pay more for their "black and white" paper to get true black and white prints, but those never looked quite right either. with WHCC, their color and B&W reproductions are right on, and they use the same paper for both. Also, the fact that you have to TELL mpix NOT to color correct your orders was REEEALLLY frustrating, and I still hear people complaining about it. that in itself shows that they are no more than a consumer lab.

okay, want me to go on? don't even get me started on the press printed procucts LOL, but lets just say that I am 100% WHCC now, and I apologize if i seem negative about mpix, but that's really because I am.

with WHCC i've found that my orders are much more consistent (dead-on, in fact) and not to mention their ROES system is AGES ahead of mpix's, which looks and works like it was programmed by a kindergardener. if I EVER have a problem with an order (none yet!) or have a question for WHCC, i can call them on the PHONE (yayyy!) and their customer service staff is the most friendly, informative and helpful bunch of people i've ever talked to. ever.

i could write 3 times this much saying why i love whcc, but basically what it comes down to is you just have to use them to see what i mean. they are a true professional lab, and that shows not only in their customer service, but their quality and consistency are amazing, as well as their prices, which INCLUDE shipping (no paying for shipping like with mpix laughing.gif )

Okay... 'nuff said.

on that note, WHCC's thrifty proofing output allows you to order 4x6's at $0.29 and i'd MUCH rather put my order in the hands of WHCC for the $0.10 more per print than mpix any day.

I think the important thing to remember about mpix is that they are a consumer lab. Miller's is the professional side.

As far as customer service goes - I have found it to be great. They don't have a phone number, but if you email them - you get an answer back so quickly - usually less than 10 minutes.

I order wallets through them b/c they look so much better than the lab that I use. They also offer a lot of things that my lab doesn't. Plus...they are FAST. So, if you need something in a a hurry, they are great.

I have found that my prints are a little dark when I order though them, (so I just do a curves bump before orering) but my monitor is not calibrated for mpix. I'm guessing that I could calibrate my monitor for them and be fine.

+1 on WHCC. They just rock in every way possible. I've never had bad experiences with MPIX, but I can't imagine wanting to leave WHCC. They just do great work.
Floyd
I look at this a bit differently.

I don't think the point here is to draw any business away from WHCC.....I think it's to lure people away from COSTCO/SAMS! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

I lurv lurv lurv WHCC because of their consistency and customer service. However, they weren't able to take care of me during a rush job near Christmas (even when I offered extra cash money). I emailed Mpix, and they were able to "git 'er done".

Yes, I'll stick with WHCC for 99% of my stuff...but I won't forsake Mpix altogether. I'll just tuck them into my pocket for the rainy days.

WHCC wins hands down...they include Blow Pops in some shipments...enough said! biggrin.gif

What does WHCC stand for? I am currently trying to decide on a professional lab for my new business. I think H&H is going to be my best bet, but I am still looking around. Thanks.
