Hey there guys,
As many of you know I only have a D50. I obviously need a second camera in case of break downs. Putting aside the debate between Canon and nikon for just one moment lets talk about the S5 for a minute. I like what I hear from people about the sweetness of the S5. I'd like to know if anyone has any side by side images that they can show. What is the benefits of the S5. Is the color better? Apparently the dynamic range should be better. Will my nikon sb-800 work with it perfectly? How are the file sizes? I read the buffer should hold about 22 raw files. that seems big enough. Do I really need the 5 fps. I shoot with 2.5 now. 3 fps isnt that big of an improvement.

For the extra $700 is it worth it. For me the image quality is key. If anyone has some sort of side by side shots I would love to see them.

Oh, and no more nikon/canon fighting. rolleyes.gif

Thanks guys.

hey John,

I'm a Canon guy so yeah. Anyways, The s5 is suppose to have AMAZING color and dynamic range. Pretty much the best available. And its using a d200 body, so you get the best of both worlds. There shouldn't be any compatability issues between your current gear and it.

But with that said, the d200 is still great in its own right, and teh extra money could go to a lot of other things. I guess its just a matter of priority.

Hi John,

I don't see that it really matters, as long as you're comfortable with the camera that you're using. The rest is cake.

All my work on my site was done with D200s and D70s. I'd probably get less noise with Canons, but it's not a big enough concern for me to switch teams. I did shoot with Fuji S2s prior to my Nikon switch (does it really qualify as a switch?), but I haven't seen much difference in the quality of my files. By the way, I shoot in jpeg.

If you're very concerned with dynamic range (and you're currently shooting RAW), you should probably look into the Fuji a bit more. Only you can answer whether you need 5fps.

As for your other questions, I'm sorry that I don't have those comparisons for you. I can only reiterate that I think that the making of great images has little to do with your gear bag.

This being said I still need a new camera and since the S5 accepts all of the nikon gear it would not be wise to not consider it an option.
