So I just (about an hour ago) decided am going to take a good friend and fellow OSPer, Lori Momberg, up on her offer and join her and her husband at WPPI. Since I just made this decision today rolleyes.gif plane tickets are a little out of my price range. I am planning on driving from Portland, OR to Vegas...going through Boise,ID and Salt Lake City,UT. Mapquest says that route is faster...and I have never been that way. I am looking for places to stay or suggestions on cheap hostels in Salt Lake City. I know that it is more than half way...I just want to get to Vegas in the late morning/early afternoon on Monday.

I am happy to pick people up along the way who are looking to get to Vegas. Just PM me or email me. biggrin.gif

It is crazy how things seem to work out. I work at a high school so I have spring break next week. I have been reading all the posts and looking at the info for WPPI...but never thought it would be possible for me to go. I also wanted to get to LA with my car...as my grandma helped me purchase my car so I wanted to drive down and show it to her. And after a post about business cards...a PM from and a generous offer from a good friend I might just get to do everything! Life is sweet...and OSP rocks!

Sorry that was a little offtopic.gif but I am just so excited!!!

YAY YAY JEN IS COMING TO WPPI!!!

Anyone who has a couch or a guest bed for her to crash on along the way would be lucky to have her!

And EVERYONE should be excited to meet her at WPPI, she's SO much fun. I haven't gotten to see her since college, so it'll be awesome to hang out again! I seriously can't wait!

Love you Jen!!!

If you mapquest Portland to Reno, nv, then reno to Bishop, ca, then Bishop to Vegas, you'll see its 160 miles less than headin through salt lake, but mapquest says about the same amount of time. The huge plus though, is that the drive from reno to Bishop is one of the most beautiful drives in the country along the edge of the towering sierra nevada mountains. And there's hot springs along the way.

Salt Lake City here if you don't mind one hour closer to Las Vegas (South of Salt Lake) and bunk beds!

I have to admit, crossing eastern Oregon and Southern Idaho is a little boring and dry.

Shawn and Jennifer - Are you going to WPPI?

----

Shawn - I have to admit I was a little confused about what mapuest said. I will think about the two different drives. I guess I cannot think for too long though. wink.gif If I decided to go that way I will have to ask you some advice on places to stay...and maybe get the directions to the hot springs. I drove from Vegas to Reno to Portland a few years ago. It was nice...but so hot because it was during the summer.

----

Jennifer - I love bunk beds! Thanks so much for the offer...you are so nice! I am going to think over my driving plan tomorrow. I will PM you tomorrow to let you know. I am a little worried about how late I will arrive, because I cannot leave that early from Portland on Saturday.

----

Lori - I am super excited to see you...and to meet Chris! I cannot believe how things work out. I went from thinking about all the cleaning and organizing I was going to do over spring break...to planning for an amazing adventure! Life is good! Random question: Does Cortney live near Bishop? Love You too Lori (and Chris).

By the way...you all do great work. It is so fun to check everyone's blogs and websites!

The ride offer is still out there to for anyone smile.gif

wow..another long post wink.gif

I am going to WPPI, and could definately give you directions to hot springs or any other number of fun stuff along the way. I live in Bishop, and if you need a place to stay I could help you out there as well. I am going to be last minute working for sure, but I do have an extra bed and a couch.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. What days are you traveling?

Cheers,
Shawn

If you want a place at North Lake Tahoe to stay on the way back you are welcome here. I leave tomorrow (3/23) for WPPI and return the afternoon of the 28th. Anytime after the 28th is fine. It's a fold out couch in the living room, nothing fancy, but it's in "downtown" Tahoe City. Walking distance to the lake, restaurants, etc.

Thanks so much Jeff. I will actually be travelling from Vegas to LA, and then LA to Portland. I would entertain taking that route back if I did not have to be back in Portland early Saturday morning to coach a volleyball tournament. I totally appreciate the offer though. Downtown Tahoe City sounds like a lot of fun!

See you in Vegas!
