We found out tonight that this mass that's been growing behind my grandma's eye for a few weeks is REALLY bad cancer. Monday she's going in for a full body scan to make sure that it hasn't spread anywhere else, and most likely Thursday she will have an operation to remove it. The good news is that the doctor said he is totally confident he'll be able to get it out with no problems, but we could definitely use all the prayers in this we can get.

Thanks everyone. wub.gif

Hey Alyssa!
We will lift her up...

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of cancer is it?

WOW. Sorry to hear this. I got the same news about my grandfather last week - cancer of the liver AND the pancreas. They're giving him less than a year to live - he's lived a good life (87 years old now) but it's still SOOOOOO heart-breaking sad.gif

Prayers for them!

Thanks! Its not anything specific, its just in her head, right behind her eye, this huge tumor. The doctor was just calling it "head cancer" and said its more common than it sounds. But its weird because he also said that most head cancers are associated with smoking, and my grandma's never smoked a day in her life.

Awww I'm sorry about your grandfather Liana! I'll lift him up in prayer as well. The main thing is that we don't want them to suffer.

Thank you so much everyone for the prayers, they mean a lot! wub.gif wub.gif bigbighug.gif

oh no, I hope they don't find any more and hopefully they have caught it in time. thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

We just got an update from the surgeon that was going to operate on my grandma...surgery is absolutely out of the question now because they've found out that the tumor has attached itself to an artery in her brain.

Radiation is the best option to shrink its size, at this point only to improve the little time she has left. We found out the kind of cancer she has (mucosal malignant melanoma) is very very rare so not a lot is known about it and the treatment options other than that it is VERY deadly (and at this point hers is stage 4) and there's basically not much they can do about it.

It just sort of sucks for us to have our hopes up for the surgery and then totally let down today, and we totally weren't expecting that. Completely out of the blue.

So at this point I ask mostly just for prayers of comfort for my grandma...I just don't want her to be in pain. She's already on 1000mg Vocodin every 4 hours, and if the radiation fails I can't imagine what her level of pain will be like.

Thanks again everyone. (Sorry to be such a bummer!)

Gosh, so sorry to hear of this news! I just got home from visiting my g'parents and my g'ma just had to have gall bladder surgery today. Thankfully at 81 she did just fine, but I totally know all about the whirlwind of emotions you are going through.

Hang in there and I'll remember her in my prayers and your family as well. Just like you said though, the most important thing is that she doesn't have to suffer any longer than necessary, although that's not easy for us to take with our loved ones. I will pray for her peace, strength and less pain during this time and strength for you all as well.

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matt.11:28)

Don't worry...God is in control and knows what He is doing even when we have no clue what He is up to. I'm praying for peace and comfort for your entire family. Keep your chin up...because when you do, it is easier to look to Heaven and remember who to go to with all our burdens. smile.gif
