I include all my digital negatives on CDs with my package prices. I'm thinking about breaking them out of the packages and charging extra for them. I'm just curious as to what others are charging for negatives these days.

Thanks!
Brady
In the event that somebody wants to build a totally custom package instead of booking one of the standard packages that includes the files, the price for the disc is $1,000 smile.gif

I charge 500.00 dollars. You know the rest about my prices. =o) This almost doubles my package fees and gets them to a reasonable fee.

Thanks Tim. How is your wife feeling? Still praying for her...

I only charge $100...but they have to purchase an album (which is not included in any package) at a $1,200 minimum. This keeps the "first look" price low and allows me to sell albums to every bride. So far it is working great.

I'd hate to not have my negatives from my own wedding so I would never dream of not offering them at all to a client. Personal preference I guess.

It is definately personal preference. For me it is more of a quality control issue.

I can understand that. Are you married? Would you want to try to track down your wedding photographer in 20 years if you wanted/needed to replace any wedding photographs? What if they went out of business or destroy them without telling you? I feel much better know that my clients have a copy of the negatives just in case anything happens to my multiple copies as well.

/insert devil's advocate
How many cases have you heard of people trying to track down their photographer for a reprint order years after the event though?
/end devil's advocate

I include them in my top package, fwiw. Otherwise, they are $750 to purchase and add to any of my other packages. People look at that, and then end up just booking my top package as it is the best value for them. Note: NOT the best deal. The best value. Definitely a difference between the two terms.

$2000 without an album purchase, $500 with the album. This is for the full collection. I include the album images on disc with the album purchase.

I'm moving away from offering them at all.

this was a decision made from the beginning.

this is a personal decision.

we strive to offer a higher level of service. sincerely. when a client has spent several thousands on our service, we are more than happy to process, print and deliver pretty much what ever they want in the way of reprints.
we print a large number of reprints at n/c.
i do not want to perfectly process every image and i do NOT want them printing proofs.

if someone can't keep track of me to get what they need, chances are that that cd of files will get lost even faster than i would.

we are structuring an add on that would include files for the images that are in the album, but this will be an add-on, and the release would be for printing to a 5x7, all other prints would need to come through us. (we are still determining all of this)

yes, most everyone in my area includes these. we explain that we are not weekend warriors that shoot and burn. we offer a higher level of service. honestly, i can think of this being an 'issue' 2 times in almost 3 years - and i didn't want to shoot either wedding.smile.gif

your product has the value you place on it.

Exactly! And who pounded this into my head? thumbsup.gif wub.gif

I guess I must be one of the lowest priced out there for this, as I only have one package and this doesnt include them. I only charge $250 for them, I get lots of takers and have hardly noticed any difference in reprint orders as Auntie Mable still orders from me. So in effect , it makes the B&G think they are getting a great deal, that translates into great word of mouth and I get a quick and easy $250. Re quality control yes it would be nice but I feel most highstreet printers are raising their game plus the couple already will have prints I have done to compare so they can see the difference for themselves. As for the what if the house burns down and I was holding there only copies, well I use Graphi exclusivly and they keep digital copies of the photographs forever anyhow.
cheers steve

We charge $600, but they must purchase an album. They are not delivered until the album is delivered. I have found that this sometimes helps motivate people to get around to ordering the album faster.

Thanks everyone! It has been nice seeing everyone's point of view on negatives. Keep the votes coming. smile.gif
