Just curious of you bloggers have found that this particular form of exposure has actually helped business. Seems like they might be very interesting to fellow photogprahers but what about brides?

Yes, very much so. I have booked weddings because of my blog. My brides LOVE IT! I have heard the same from my friend Brody as well.

Do the blogs have to be photography-related? If not, mine is up at the following:

Whoops! Scratch that! I've moved things around a little--new address follows...

I just started getting into the whole blog thing a few weeks ago and am totally addicted. Since I'm a total computer geek, for me that means a lot of looking around the internet at what else is out there. I saw that a lot of people use xanga and I thought it might be helpful to post the various resources out there in case people like to fiddle.

- Movable Type
- Blogger
- Xanga
- boastMachine
- b2
- ecto
- MarsEdit
- Nucleus
- TypePad
- WordPress

Some of the above are hosted services, like Xanga and Blogger, and others are systems you can install and tweak on your own server. I use boastMachine on my blog, and love it to death, but it probably isn't suitable for someone who doesn't like to tweak code. I think it works great right from the get go, but since it is a system you host yourself, I figure you pretty much want to tweak it to look like your site in general. So I'd recommend what I've got, but only to those who might want to customize their site and delve into the code a little. Otherwise, I think most of the other ones listed above are great!
Michelle Ross
I've made a blogring for those of us on Xanga. Not thinking, I put our category under 'Hobbies'

*dark cloud*

I should be fired as blog ring leader for that.

I feel it the love ... I wanted to let you know that I spoke with my mom and she forgives you laughing.gif .

PS ... Just to join in the fun, you can check out Uncle Rico's blog here if you'd like.

"Myspace.com" is another one to add.

I love my blog. It gets major traffic from my site. I post almost everything I have done on it through out the week. Since I started it, I have booked more weddings from it then any advertising I have done. It works very well. I think its a great way for potential clients to get to know you with out meeting you. Plus all of my past brides always seem to call me and say that they loved something that I have done and put on there.

Thank you all for inspiring me - I finally spent some time creating a blog.

I'm thinking about linking this to my website so clients can view what's going on with my photography. It's also a great way to get some feedback.

Thanks Kim, yours looks awesome - I love the shot on the bridge.

Karl,
I love your blog too, makes me want to vacation to Palawan. My wife has never gone to PI, and I just might show her your pics to convince her to go!

*For the Blogger users:* I've secretly been jonesing for some type of data feed from your sites (RSS or Atom) so I can keep up with what you guys are posting daily. I didn't think Blogger offered one (and was a bit befuddled by that) but I did a bit of digging and found out that they do! So here's the link to the instructions. And here's a alink to other Blogger "Add-Ons".

If you aren't sure what syndication is, it's basically a really cool data feed of your blog that is automatically generated. People like me (and I'm sure you have a few clients that are similar) are a bit nerdy and like looking at hundreds of sites really quickly. So we use an RSS or Atom aggregator to subscribe to your blog as well as 100's of other ones. Each time you make a new post, the data feed will reflect the new content. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well, but they're very cool features and I'm sure at least a few of your clients would love it if you offered such a capability. (and me too!)
peter
...2 things:

1. We finally bit the bullet and created a photography blog for our company. (DJ: Feel free to replace the Credo one with the photo one in the main list!)

2. Scratch what I said about the RSS/Atom thing with blogger -- if you want to snag the feed, just add /atom.xml to the main address for anyone's blog site. For example, you can see Dane's by taking http://danesandersinmotion.blogspot.com/ and making it http://danesandersinmotion.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Ha ha, laugh.gif DJ, I just noticed the 'sitting in a tree' remark next to Visions blog (which we're not by the way fellow OSPr's) Our first avatar of us holding a camera, walking together on the beach was a JOKE. Ha ha.
Anyway, we may be coming out with a new blog in the not too distant future I'll let you guys know about when it comes.
LukeWalker
rocking, that's an awesome idea to include everyone's blog. I think it would be great to sit down and look through them all (as if any of us have the time). I am going to save it to my favorites for a slow winter day. Here is my blog...

www.xanga.com/ljwphotography

Pretty frequently updated. And in response to the person who asked if it helped with clients.... HECK YEA! No doubt about it. Without going into all the reasons why since there really is a lot, I strongly believe in creating a community feeling for people involved with me. That goes hand in hand with the "creating an experience" philosophy, I like to give clients the option of seeing recent work, getting to know me on a more personal level, keeping them excited about me, and hearing stories of other people's weddings (sometimes they email each other and become friends through their experiences with me). So in summary it helps my branding and helps me create an experience for clients... and most importantly a community feel. I will put a message board up sooner or later, but that's def in the future!

I've got a gal that is REALLY wanting to shoot with some other photogs in the area ... if you're ever in need of some free assistance let me know and I'll get you all connected.... I'm afraid I'm a bit far for her though she seems eager even to come as far as ATL to shoot/assist...
