I just had a rotten day and needed to share it. It started at 7am when I came downstairs and our furnace had quit working and the house was around 59 degrees (F). Then a client called and needed to reduce her order from $850 to $350. Guess she and her husband had a budgeting disagreement. I know for many of you $500 income is pennies but for us just starting out, that stung a little. Especially since I've spent a month making and tweaking some family collages that they liked (but of course they only chose one). Then a client called to say they received their product but it came damaged from UPS. About 10 minutes later, my husband calls to say he received an email from another client that received damaged goods from UPS - both items were sent on the same day from the same UPS store and this is the first time I've had the UPS store package items for me. So I think, ok, it has damage insurance so I call the store and the manager tells me basically, "Look, the products were broken when you brought them in (they weren't - I'm 100% sure of that) and they basically fell apart when we went to pack them (WHAT!). I'll make a claim but I'm not into insurance fraud." WHAT! Dude, the products were smashed. Like a truck sat on them and I KNOW they were not broken when I brought them in. So I was WAY mad. He basically was saying, "you're a liar and I'll put in a claim but FAT CHANCE on being compensated." I will never be shipping out from their store again, the place was always kinda trashy but it's close and I figured they were just a little messy.
I also have a strange back pain today and I managed to crash my head into a door while trying to help my son get dressed. And I figured I might get something done today - HA!
So tell me about some of your good clients, good days, whatever. I need to remember their are clients out there who can make an order bigger than a walmart order, UPS doesn't always smash your stuff and say it wasn't their fault and furnaces don't always break down. By the way, the furnace guy was great - he came, fixed it and went on his way. Is there a way you can send a gratuity to a furnace repair man?
Cheers!

I quit my day job on a day just like that. It got so incredibly stupid here all at once that I said screw it, I'm not going to work anymore, I'm JUST doing the photo biz. Have been full time for just over a year since.
Those days happen - about once, twice a year to me. I HATE them - clients back out of weddings, orders come in screwy, everything happens IN ONE DAY.
The good part? The happy story? The other 360+ days aren't that bad.

They get better and tomorrow will be more under control and a week from now you'll be much better and able to share your story with next year's newb.

The last two weeks have been like that for me. I feel your pain.
But things are starting to look up. I've decided that there's always some *good* to go with the bad, so the next two weeks *have* to be all good, right? (just say yes)

My kids have a play doctor's kit. I walked into the family room today to find my 2-year old son lying face down on the floor with his pants around his ankles, while my 3-year old daughter had the stethoscope on his butt. I half-laughed, half-freaked and my daughter says, "But mommy, I'm just listening to his heiney go 'tic-toc'".
We now have a clothes-must-stay-on-while-playing-doctor rule.
I hope tomorrow's better for you.

I say to my daughter "I love you"
She says "Who doesn't?"
That always makes me laugh.

My little sister and her boyfriend are in town this week; so nice to have visitors! I just took the two of them and my boyfriend out for really yummy sushi! Four people, and it was only $60. Nice!
I laughed so hard at the kid stories

So I had to add my day to this....it was fan-stinkin-tastic! <---that word is mine! ;-) Anyway...first, I figured out a way cool thing I can do in my studio, so I was psyched! Then...I met a friend for smoothies and when we left we randomly stopped to help an older man who was alone and needed a jump for his car! He offered us money or coffee but of course we refused any compensation...God's glory compels us to do things like that not expecting in return...anyway...then we went to "Amazing Grace" (GREAT movie btw) and we had popcorn and water....during the credits, my friend kicked over her water which we laughed about b/c it got over everything!...including our popcorn which we didn't notice but the bottom had been soaked. While we were getting up to leave I grabbed a corner of the bag to throw it away and.....yep, the bottom of the PAPER popcorn bag had been soaked off and 1/2 of the large popcorn went EVERYWHERE! So....we left. The end. We went out for appetizers too and had a blast talking about her upcoming wedding. Friends are awesome! I hope this brings you a little bit of joy.

Thanks guys! I like happy stories. I'm pretty new to posting here but so far I've found the OSP crowd to be pretty sweet:). I especially like the "doctor" story - my three boys haven't done that yet but the other stories I could tell . . . .
It's sunny out today and actually above freezing (Wisconsin Springtime) so we are going to go play out in the mud and leave our troubles behind - at least for a few hours. UPS claims aren't answering calls today anyhow.
And it's St. Patrick's day, maybe we'll make green cupcakes.
Take it easy everyone!
