count me in. great idea

my blog
Eric Hegwer
To all those people who want to be IN - just keep in mind this is more than posting a link here - you need to add some code to your actual blog.
Leann
Ok, I think I've got my part done right -- I claimed my blog, inserted the code snippets, friended all the blogs on Matt's list, made a blog post listing everyone's blog... Now I need to sit back and watch the ratings climb?

Ok, I did figure out how to put the links in, but here is what I am wondering. When I look at Jenifer's blog, our names appear. When I look at mine, the web address appears. Why is that? Did she add something to the code to make our names appear, or did I do something wrong
Here is hers:
http://jenniferimages.blogspot.com/
Here is mine:
http://karidouma.blogspot.com/

Kari...after you entered the code in the "add links" there is another spot just underneath where you can type in the name you want displayed instead of just the coding.

I don't know if I explain very well....but if you use the new beta blogger, under add links, and directly under where you put the code, you can enter the name as you'd like it to appear.

Hi Leann, I think you have to put it on your page not in a post, ask Matt to be sure!

Ok, I haven't updated to the new blogger yet. (I thought I did, but I didn't update my template aparently.) So, I don't have the Add Links spot. I am going to update my template, but I don't want to do it now. The reason being is that if I update my template, I will loose all the color changes that I did before. So, I need to do it when I have time to put my colors back the way I want them. I don't have time now... I have a maternity session in a half hour and I have to go get ready! Thanks.

Do I do that by editing the template? Because when I stick them into the template, the link texts overlap into the blog entries and it just looks really horrible.

Hopefully Matt will chime in and help!! I barely understood what I was doing, and was actually surprised when it worked!! lol!!!

Leann...are you using blogger? If so, is it the new one?
Anne
Has anyone mentioned that you create more incoming links to your blog by posting comments on other people's blog with a link to your blog in the html area?? Start commenting for your own sake, peeps!!

Matt - thanks for going out of your way to put this together!!!
MattA
Holy cow - give me a sec to wake up and I'll get my thoughts together and start helping.

If so, go to layout, click on links, and add just the http://whatevertherestsays and the click on add link.
This will put it on the side of your links.
You'll have to do each one at a time.
This is probably the slow method, but it worked for me.

Hey Jen,

When you added the links manually, some things get fogged up. wink.gif Mine should say Picture Infinity not Pure Infinity. lol

Actually I did the list on my LJ like you did - in a post, but really what we're looking to do is more what we've done on our real blog - add it to the front page permanente. We can do it without making it look like trash, I'll help ya. smile.gif

And here is the link code for your blogroll. Note: this should be linked somewhere on the front page of your blog - either on the sidebar like most blogger/blogspot and Wordpress blogs or on the bottom of most others. If you HAVE to, link to it from a page that directly links to your front page - but again it's preferable and probably works best if you link from the front.

I think you meant something like this instead??
http://technorati.com/faves/anneruthmann
MattA
faves on Technorati? You definitely want that too - but the most important thing all the way around is for each of us to have an actual link to the others on our blog. Like http://jenniferimages.blogspot.com/ has done or like ours at http://blog.pictureinfinity.com

it's my understanding that he means both!! That and links directly on our blog's. Correct me if I'm wrong here Matt!
Candy

He beat me to it!! lol
Anne
shisa... isn't there a widget that I could use which has a drop down menu or something? I don't want to put everyone's links on the sidebar of my blog..... hmm... how can we do this so that we maintain brand identity without making it easy to send our clients to other photographer's blogs??

Matt - why haven't you commented on my blog yet? It would create an incoming link to your blog!
stephanie
I put it in a post. that way it will always be in my archives but not on my sidebar. Don't know if thats the most effective thing but at least it won't be on there ALL the time.
MattA
Ok, we're going to need to sort this mess out. lol Maybe I need to find something we can all do consistently.

Putting them all in a post will lose 'freshness' on Technorati which means in 6 months, none of us will have a good ranking again. So that's not really a good permanent solution. However I understand about the lonnnnnnnnnnnng list of links...

I still think the best alternate way to do this is to create a links page and link to that on the front page - like under LINKS on blogspot or something.
Candy
I think mine looks great!! I don't know what the big deal is??
Candy
p.s. I like that they are right there and I can click on them for inspiration!

In looking at the 31 incoming links you have to your blog http://technorati.com/search/anneruthmann.blogspot.com

I don't see any as comments back from stuff you posted on other people's blog?

I see:
1) Candy's blogroll
2) Leann's post
3) My blogroll
4) My LJ post
5) A post from Janelle linking you
6) another post from Janelle
7) And So it begins blogroll
8) Davis Fam blogroll
9) pretty modest link to you

etc. but I don't see the regular linkbacks. I don't think it works like Google that way. Commenting on other blogs *does* help with Google but not so much with Technorati.

Most of us are in differnt parts of the country (or continent, since I'm in Canada) so I don't think there will be any harm in doing this. Besides, listing other photographers shows that you're confident in your own work. (IMO)

Yes, I'm using the new Blogger.

I can't find a single solitary place that says "add links" or anything -- it seems like it's entirely dependant on me modifying the template text.

Ok...let me see...
When you login, you'll have a spot that says "layout".
Click in there.
Then you should see on the right hand side a box that says "links"
If not, you may find it under "add a new page element"; if so add it where it say "links".
Then once the links box opens, you'll see a place for : http://

Put the addresses in there.
If you want to assign them by their names, there is a spot to do that right below. You'll have to type it in by hand.

Then save your changes.

That should be it.

Let me know how it goes.

Ooooh nice silent movie! You should add rinky-dink piano sounds to it and "oooh" "aaah" plaquards between the scenes, for extra added effect!

Thanks -- I needed that!

I think Leann's having the same issue I am with the "new" blogger. There's no "layout" button -- only the "template" button. I have no idea why. Well, I have one idea. Because the old blogger blog was hosted on my own site and not on blogger.com. I think if that's the case, it keeps the "template" instead of using an easy, fancy "layout" button.

I host my blog on my site as well, so that may be the problem. Good call Adam.
