Just a quick question. I have looked at the files that the new DVD option puts out, and myself and a video savvy friend of mine feel we can easy create high quality DVDs from those files. (adding some completion in the Showit outsourcing Monopoly is a bonus)

You would need to provide:
1. The location of the show on your site
2. the name of the DVD file in the folder (e.g. dvd188555)

If you wanted:
3. The images for the DVD (we would print a cover for the case and on the DVD directly)
4. The image for the DVD menu

We would also offer just the video encoding service for DVD ready video files and Ipod ready files.

Here is what we are thinking price wise:

Fully finished DVD in slim case (menus, printed DVD and printed case cover) - $75.00
DVD ready mpeg file, downable from my site (so you can burn your own DVD) - $30
Ipod video - $40

If there are 10-20 interested, we will make some demo DVDs and mail them to you free of charge.

DJ, if you feel threatened by this, feel free to pull the post and drop me an email letting me know.

I sure hope this isn't competition for DJ, because I hope his prices aren't this high!

I'm not going to comment on the $75, because I don't know what all goes into the packaging and all that, but I know I wouldn't want to pay $200 for a program that everytime I make a slideshow and want to download a usable DVD file its $30. And then to charge $40 for an ipod file that can easily be made from the "$30" DVD file in quicktime pro, a 1 time $30 program, seems weird.

Just my thoughts,

Shawn

Good points. I think that though it's good to have DVD making options available, and I does take whoever is offering the service time to make, but most of us just want the files, and to make our own DVD's, and labels. I for one give a slideshow as basically an extra, and I think easy and cheap is the key. Show it just needs a fea thumbsup.gif ture to export as a video file.

Those of us on the mac can do them ourselves by spending about 30.00 on a really good capture program called Snaps Pro X and just capturing the show with the audio into a video file. If works well. Sadly I don't know of any screen capture software for PC that can handle it, but Snaps on the mac will do it.

I don't fault you Eric, or DJ for trying it out, and I understand that it takes time and hassle to do this, and that you need it to be profitable. I just don't think most are going to want to deal with the cist, or the hassle. Most photographer have all the resources to make DVD's, labels, etc, and most are not going to want to spend a bunch more just for a disk that they want to do themselves in the first place.

I could be wrong though... just some thoughts...

Undercutting the market before the product is even available. hmmmm

Personally I think you'd be better of sticking with the digital download version, as thats what most want the most. Figuring out how to make that service as cheep as possible for the DIYers is what many are askign for. DJ's service allows the customer to order directly and will be getting a 1st class product and the photographer doesn't have to do anything but cash their check.

Is this a joke? unsure.gif

No. It was rumored awhile back that Showit DVD will be charging close to $150. Until I hear that Showit is beating this price, I fully intend to offer it to anyone who wants it.

wow - very odd post Eric...great way to make sure we won't be friends.

....and no place did we ever say anything near $150....I did find Rick Rosen spreading false information about the pricing of our products on other forums so if you saw $150 somewhere please let me know...

We've also tried the screen capturing and found the quality far too poor to be acceptable.

I think our pricing will be very fair. We want a win-win for everyone so I'll know better after this weekend what those prices will be because I'll be in AZ with Todd figuring all that out.

Cheers,
DJ
