Hello, All you pro's out there.
I am Green(new) to Photography(period). I bought a D70s about 3wks ago
and started shooting pixs of my kids. then I got a Vivitar 285hv flash about 5 days ago and I have no clue what I'm doing but for me it's all trial and error. I stay up until like midnight doing research on learn how to shoot better. I have no clue about f/stop but, I will be taking classes soon, because I want control-knoweldge is power! and then I 'll take Zack Arias's OneLight session (can't wait-he is BAADDD, no offense to all the rest of the best). Anyhow I need everyone to look at my first set of "good" pictures, I call my "green book" and let me know what i'm doing wrong or if i'm on the right track. I am a perfectionist so, I'm hard on myself, so be harsh. I can't wait to be on the other end (giving advice).
Question...If i'm shooting between 9am-1pm do I need a flash? (I think yes, but I need advice) I have to shoot a RAP artist on Sunday, here in Atlanta and I want to impress so I need to be on the money with my shots. I don't have any extra lighting or umbrellas or equipment just my camera and flash. Am I in over mty head or is there hope for me? Let me know. Thank you in Advance to everyone.

Hey Victor, welcome!
The pic of the kids in the grass are really nice. You have already discovered that changing your angles and perspective is a great thing, keep it up!

hey, victor! these are a fantastic start & i admire you for jumping in with both feet!

the only thing i would say (and this is coming from a non-flash photographer, so take it as you will) is to try some natural light. i think you'll be pleasantly surprised at your results, once you start to "see" the light.

and no, i don't think you're in over your head. when you love what you do, it's a good thing.

and welcome, by the way!

I started out the same way...once camera, one lense! If you have the desire to take the time to shoot shoot shoot shoot, you will learn learn learn!

Your pictures are looking good...but I agree with Julie, dont always resort to flash! I use no flash more than I use flash!

Let us see the RAP artist pictures when you are done!!!

the D70 is a great started camera....
