I thought it would be prudent to buy a shield for the LCD screen on my cam, but I haven't been able to find one that isn't either a) of the relatively thin stick-on variety or b) equipped with millions of doors that I would have to break off. Has anyone found a solid shield for the 5D without the hood, etc.?

I use the Shieldzone It is a thin plastic "type" thing. it is actually made of helicopter blade matterial and guarented not to scratch or they will replace it. They are really nice. It comes with one for the back and top LCD on the 5d. You cant beat it. the hoodman thing is crazy, just way to big and the flaps and hood. it gets in the way.

Delkin makes one, its a full piece that fits on by replacing the eye cover. Never tried it though

I've got the Delkin, it has all the flaps and doors and I don't like it. The flaps are spring loaded so you have to fold both flaps in at the same time and close the door all the way so it will stay shut.

It doesn't help any in the sun either.

The best use for it would be an anti-chimping mechanism.

I believe the Canon has a replaceable protector on it anyway. If I remember correctly, its cheap like $10 or so, so I dont see any need for a shield beyond that.

Thanks! I concur with the hoodman craziness! (I purchased one, but am returning it.) Does the Shieldzone kind just stick on with adhesive? Just wondering if it would get goo on the camera. Maybe I'm being over protective. smile.gif

Thanks everyone for all the info!

Mike that's interesting on the Canon protector...I didn't know they sold anything for 10 dolla!

Nope! you just spay some like water cleaner stuff on the shieldzone and lay it in place. After that you squeege it to get air bubbles out. Everything come in the package... It is really work it. Plus you dont get finger prints all over the lcd or face oils from make up or sweat.
