Full Version: Where to get a basic website

I've been using a modified Pbase page for my main site for a few years now. I have my domain names redirected to the site and I sell through instaproofs.

The Pbase page has done pretty well for me, but I now believe it is holding me back. It's just not as pro looking as a stand alone site.

What I'm looking for is a simple non-flash site that doesn't require a 2nd mortgage to start-up. I don't need domain registration and I don't need a storefront.

I do want access so I can modify the site as needed without paying someone else to do it. Basically, I need my Pbase page without all the links back to Pbase.

I'd invite you to take a look at my existing arrangement, unfortunately Pbase is DOWN right now. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif (I know, count it as a blessing and motivation to step up to the next level).

ETA: Pbase is back now if you'd like to see my current set-up.

Thanks for you help!

we use flash and do evrything from scratch... big headache, flash is so un-userfriendly, if that is even a word.

I can personally recommend phpCrazysite.com. It is very simple to use but puts together a great site and it can be flash or non...it is all up to you.

For an example, wulfphotography.com is make with it. My site isn't done yet, as I haven't had time to get it going...close though.

Big Folio does have HTML only sites. You can update them on your own through a control panel.

I use a combination of slideshowpro slideshows set up in a css. The behinds the scenes is controlled by slideshowpro director. Check out http://www.slideshowpro.net and http://www.crozierphotography.com

Check out BigBlackBag.com you can design your site and see it and get two weeks to play around with it before you buy. You can even upgrade to integrate event proofing/purchasing if you want.

It's a basic solution for me right now, but I've managed to make it quite customized. Eventually I'll move into a fancier site, but not until my business get's a little steadier.

(PS, if you go for it, mention my name)

Thanks again everyone!

I'm looking into the phpcrazy site. Right now it looks like the best option for me.

ETA: Please excuse the red X avatar. Pbase is down again!

I'll second the bigfolio suggestion. I have nothing but good things to say about them!!

Robert Watcher seems to have some pretty cool stuff at his site....
www.phpcrazysite.com

I hear of a lot of people getting winklet sites, too.

I have a bludomain and love it. You can actually get some decent deals if you catch them at the right time and watch their blog. They are also pretty cool about letting you do group buys, so that everyone gets them at a discounted price if you get enough people.

We use www.photobiz.com and they have non flash sites very reasonably too.
