Hey everyone!

It's been a looooong time since I've spoken with some of you! I check in on the board every now and then but generally too busy to post up on every thread like I used to smile.gif

Just wanted to share our new site with you guys, we ended up just going with BluDomain (why didn't we just do this sooner?)

It's finally up!!

http://www.aaronlockwoodphotography.com

and you have to watch my slideshow too:

Let me know what you think!

Oh and Aaron is who I've been working with for about the last 2 1/2 years now, full time for a little over a year (back from when I "lost" my day job, yippee!)

Honestly?

You have a lot of great work.

The colors on the site do *not* work at all. Pale Blue, Chocolate, Orange, & Red... no! The three images on the splash page don't flow well at all. They're 3 totally clashing styles.

And if you're going to use non-royalty free music, you could at least have the decency to give credit to the artist wink.gif The music doesn't flow either though - it goes from ultra modern to like 70's or something. I see the whole photography theme on some of them (F-stop & Kodachrome) but I don't think the average consumer is going to take the time to figure it out, they'll be too busy looking for something to shove in their ears wink.gif

Like I said - your photography is nice but the site just doesn't compliment it at all.

huh... We decided not to go with "standard" colors (ie. black or white). You might want to do some research on color theory. It's cool if you don't like the colors (you don't have to), but we totally dig 'em. (the rest of the world doesn't seem to mind either...)

Would it make more sense to have 3 similar images for 3 totally different areas of our site?

I guess we're just indecent then! laughing.gif
and trust me, I've followed MANY threads on royalty free/non royalty free music. There's usually a reason why royalty free music is royalty free.

Not trying to be mean back or anything (no tag backs!), but what happened to the nice OSP I remember from back in the day??

It's like everyone's bandevil.gif now.

Hi Rueben,
I really like the site.. I'm in Miami... not a lot of us from Florida.

+1
I don't mind the blue and orange, but the red dosen't work for me personally.
I contacted Brushfire records (who J.Johnson is with) about my site and they said I couldn't use any music unless it is for nonprofit (fyi).

Nice images. I really dig the beach shots!

I don't think she was being mean, just giving her opinion like you asked.
I was going to use a light blue on my site and my wife told me she didn't like it, she wasn't being mean to me, just trying to help.

Count me in folks who aren't included in the "rest of the world".

Please excuse my bluntness, but your "the rest of the world" comment is pretty arrogant and that attitude is going to hold you back from improving. Unless you think you don't have to improve... If "the rest of the world" is banging down your door booking sessions with you, then I guess you don't have anything to worry about.

But getting defensive and just blowing off Melody's input as mean (see quote below) and "not of this world" isn't the best way to go me thinks. It's constructive criticism -- take it or leave it. Those who get definsive and leave it stay stagnant and stubborn and never improve/grow.

I don't think Melody was trying to be a devil banana. I think she had courage to post something besides blowing sunshine and smilies up your arse. If that's all you wanted, then say "compliments only, please" instead of "tell me what you think".

I think a lot of your work is great; the site could flow better, the colors are jarring, and the music is a little much for me. If that's what you think will appeal to your target market, then it's perfect. You've got some great stuff there. If you want to showcase 3 totally different styles on your splash page, that's cool, as long as that's what you want to get across.

Use whatever music you want; but there is great RF music out there FOR SURE. It takes digging & hunting for the perfect style, but it is out there. There are a LOT of unsigned artists on myspace as well, who would LOVE to have their music showcased on sites like ours, and they don't have the big label breathing down their necks. I've seen photographers who find artists on myspace, ask for permission to use the songs, and they end up with music that is UNIQUE, fresh, and very complimentary to the site/photography.
