Ok...wow...I have been sooo out of touch lately with everyone here. I am gone a few days and soo much has happened on here. Whew.

Anyhow..back to my point that I haven't even started on... tongue.gif

So...this lady (one of my early high society friend/client who's helped me get to where I am today by her gazillion referrals) calls me today and wants to book me for a 50th Anniversary. What do I charge? I don't want to respond without getting some feedback. Should I charge by the hour? Charge by the hour and offer some prints? Or simply just treat this like a wedding package and give her a great deal? I just dont know.

Any suggestions?

Katherine,
I know some people seem to have a thing about charging by the hour, but (for what little event coverage we do) we charge like this:

1.) One Hour Coverage - Includes 40 4x6 proofs uploaded to Pictage, $300.00
2.) Two Hour Coverage - Includes 70 4x6 proofs uploaded to Pictage, $400.00
3.) Three Hour Coverage - Includes 100 4x6 proofs uploaded to Pictage, $500.00

Maybe that's too cheap, maybe not, but it's not a bulk of our business (maybe 3 events last year?), and there wouldn't be a whole lot of work involved....

I think the question might be, "What are you hoping to accomplish through this transaction?"

If you're trying to hook her up or build goodwill while maintaining in her mind that your time is worth a lot for future clients, maybe give her a flat rate that you feel comfortable with.

If you're trying to make money, up the flat rate or charge by the hour at a rate you'd want to charge others and hold your ground.

If you're just trying to thank her, do it for free and charge for prints.

All these motivations are totally fair in my opinion, but your intentions should tell you what you need to do. Does that help?
Katherine
ok...thanks guys

I think i get the general idea.

ok...i just booked another 50th wedding anniversary...

"why am i booking these??" I'm am not a mee maw and paw paw photographer?!

Anyhow...they asked me on the spot and I havent' even really thought about the prices...

for just two hours PJ style...no formal poses...just me walking around doing my thang...starting at $600 (no prints just my time). The caller bit the bait too fast and then now I'm thinking..."that was too cheap". sad.gif
