Africa, Here We Come!

Meet our March 24th groom, Alex Mutagubya. He will be marrying his beautiful bride Faith, in Uganda near Lake Victoria. We first met Alex last summer as he was touring the U.S. as the music director of The Mwangaza Children's Choir. The group, which is based in Gaba, Uganda in East Africa, tours on behalf of Africa Renewal Ministries(ARM) to raise money for schools and orphanages. Mwangaza has performed at international meetings of Compassion International and World Vision, and for the President of Uganda as well as at the 2004 Dove Awards. They have also recorded with both Michael W. Smith and Nicole C. Mullen on their 2004 CD projects.

This year our family has decided to get involved with the increasing problem of orphaned children in Africa and will be partnering with Bishop Justus Wanjala of Nairobi, Kenya to help his orphanages raise enough money to be able to feed and clothe his 90 children. If you would like to get involved with this project please call the studio at 1-800-760-7938.

Here are some of our favorite people in all of the world. Jaidah, Aidah, Flavia and Maureen stayed at our home several times throughout the summer while on tour. We count it such an honor to have met these amazing people who never tire of giving their joy and gratitude. We can't wait to see them in a few weeks! ~Annette Biggers

Hi Rachel,

I actually posted this twice....by accident...hehe. The second posting has the pictures on them for no apparent reason other than an accidental clicking on the "right" button. hmmm...I have much to learn...hence, the reason I am attending your workshop. (-:

I am going to attempt to upload the images to this response....let's see how intellegent I am.....don't hold your breath.....here goes!

Ut Oh...doesn't look good. I am going to press Preview Post. AHHHH...they are there...however...WAY small.

Our daughter Charlene is the very white person in the middle. She is our adopted foster child.

OH....tell Andrew that thanks to him I met Paul Gero and his wife today. Andrew told me about Paul and I called him. I was SO honored to have met such a nice guy in our business who lives within 2 miles of all of us out here....Chris Becker, Jessica Claire, Doug and Chenin, and Victor Sizemore.

Hope everything is going well for all of you at LaCour!

Wow. How wild is this? I'm leaving on March 12th to shoot a wedding in Nigeria and will be back on the 24th. What are the chances of two of us shooting a wedding in Africa in the same month?!?! Congrats. It will be awesome. Do you know much of the type of ceremony it will be? The one I'm shooting is called Igba Nkwu Nwanyi and will be held in a fairly remote village. I bet you are just excited as can be. I've gone from "I can't wait - it's forever away" to now "OMG I don't have enough time to prepare" and everything in between. biggrin.gif I try not to think about it too much, because then I can't sleep or do anything. Then I read your post and it reminds me. Now I'll be up the next 6 hours, mind racing.

I'd love to hear more about the ceremony you will be shooting, the customs and rituals, the people, etc. Here is an explanation of Igba Nkwu Nwanyi. It is the post titled "The Bride Price:"

Here are some amateur snaps my of bride's cousin's wedding:

If you haven't gotten any shots you need yet, get them asap. Many of them take 3-4 weeks to reach full effectiveness from what I understand. I put it off as long as possible. I hadn't had a vaccination in forever, and my mind made it out to be much worse than it ended up being. I had 5 shots at once, but could have taken many more.

Do they require a visa to enter Uganda? Getting a visa was the biggest pain so far, but definitely worth the trouble!

Really, congratulations. What an amazing opportunity. Take care of yourself, and stay safe!

I think what you're doing is great! I'm going to Africa this summer, I'll be volunteering at an orphanage in Kenya for 2 weeks, then at a lion park in South Africa for another 2. I can't wait to help out and really make a difference! I'll be calling you to see how I can help your cause too!
Have a wonderful time in Africa!
