I have used FolderShare to sync my pictures folder on my desktop and laptop - and loved it. Someone set it up for me the first time.

About a month ago, my laptop died and I had to send it in for service. I just go around to going to FolderShare and adding my laptop back. I have it set to auto sync.

I have lots of pics from this week on my laptop that I need to get on my desktop. The folder are now showing up on my desktop - but instead of the images - I have a folder full of icons that say placeholder.

What does that mean and what do I need to do to get the actual images there?

Well...if I go to foldershare.com and access my laptop that way - I can open the folder - but can't figure out how to copy it. I need to go try again.

It is supposed to happen automatically though. I don't know what's up with all the placeholder things.

found this on the troubleshooting section of foldershare.com

What is the difference between On-Demand and Automatic sync setting?Automatic syncing keeps all the files in a Library in sync between all computers in a library without any manual control or intervention. In an On-Demand sync, placeholder files represent all the actual files until they are downloaded to that computer. This way, if you're syncing/sharing a large number of files and don't necessarily need them all downloaded at once, you can click the placeholder file name and it will download the actual file from a computer that has the file. Once that file is downloaded, changes made to it will be kept Automatically in sync.

is this a free app? it looks pretty sweet . . .

Hey,

Yeah - it's free - and it's REALLY sweet! My computer guy hooked me up with it. Apparently it only recently became free.

The weird thing is that I"m not set up for on demand. I'm set up for auto syncing, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I'll go follow that link and see if it gives any suggestions.

smile.gif Thanks for looking!

ugghhh...this is so frustrating. I needed to be working all night and I'm stuck until I can get my pics.

Some of the images have popped up. Could it be because my computer was turned off while I was out of town? I thought the images were there pretty much instantly...but maybe they are transferring slowly one image at a time to my desktop now that it is online?
