MJ,
I have one for sale if your interested. Was going to put it on ebay. It's a 600 but only a few months old.
I went back to a regular Moto flip phone.

Oh, cool! I might be interested! How much? Not sure if I need or want the 650...
What didn't you like about it?

Honestly, it was a cool toy and a decent Palm PDA, but the phone part wasn't that great. I never seem to have good solid connections and it was hard to hear. Not sure how Dane feels but I know several people who have them and they all said the same thing. It's not a bad product, but the phone part (the basic part) just isn't great. I didn't realize the difference until I switched back to a standard Motorola Flip Phone. I have more bars in more places (starting to sound like a cingular commercial) and it's clearer. Maybe these issue are fixed in the 650?
Anyway if you still want one I would be willing to sell mine for $250. I have the original packaging and manuals etc. It's in perfect condition.
I took a bunch of photos for ebay. I'll try and post them on a page on my site tonight so you can check it out.

I have a T-Moblie Sidekick II, and dispite knowing I use the same device as Paris Hilton, it's not quite living up to what I want.
I've been considering the Treo 650, but the unlocked one is $700 from Palm (and I want to stick with T-Mobile, so I'd have to pay the full price). Does anyone else have a 650? Do you like it? Is it worth the $?
No store actually has a *working* demo of one, so without playing with it, I'm still not 100% sold.
Anyone, anyone?

I agree about the phone quality on the 600 seriously lagging! I think it has to do with their antennas b/c I sent mine back and got another one a couple months after buying it and it was better but still not as good as I had hoped!
I'm also a T-mobile guy and their plans rock so I'm not switching but I'm bummed to pay the extra dough just to get one unlocked! Lame!
I'm actually at Dane's house right now so I'll tell him to post up his take on the voice quality of the 650...We can test it out next to my 600 and see if there's a difference.
I'm a big bluetooth fan so that's why I'm hoping to switch to the 650 (or similar crackberry).

Hey MJ,
Yes, I did wait for the 650, living under the pain that was David Jay bragging about his latest and greatest 600

. Well, for at least 6 months (until the 700 comes out), I'm that happy guy and DJ's hatin' life! It's a pretty amazing machine as far as machines go.
I believe it's a dramatic improvement over the 600. The screen is MUCH nicer, the interface cleaner and the bluetooth rocks! There are tons of other perks in the upgrade but it really boils down to this: if you go for the 600, don't even take a glance at the 650 ... you'll have as green with envy as DJ is right now, over in the corner playing with mine. It's hard to see a grown man cry like this. Very very sad.
Does that help? What other questions do you have?
Dane Sanders

When you call, I promise I'll be able to hear. Ya, DJ and I did some testing last night and it seemed fine. Once in a while there's a delay. I've experienced this with most cell phones though at some point or another. Let us know if you go for it. Are you thinking cingular or sprint?

I don't know about you all, but my experience with Sprint has nto been good. If you look at their coverage map, it basically seems to trace highways... and that's it!!!! Go Cingular! Probably in the top two with Verizon as far as coverage goes!!!

I agree. Especially with the ATT/Cingular merger. Cingular is hard to beat.

Geez...I don't know know if I want to drop the cash for the 650. And I'm totally happy with the coverage I have with Cingular.

I'm with cingular and am pretty grateful I was able to upgrade my phone to a full on computer. Who says i don't like PeeCee's? This one rocks!
Alan's right. The merger has really upped the value of being with cingular. The data plan is a little spendy but the coverage is pretty decent in our area. Nathan's right too about cingular and verizon. Nationally, they've ranked in the top two for some time now.

I can't wait to read your review...
(Now I'm kinda glad I haven't jumped into the Treo 650 yet.. I'm off to nerd-it-up now and scour the internet for details....)
THANKS!

I was considering a 600, but I ended up getting an SE P900. I used it for less than a year before discovering that I like my Tungsten T3 much better as a PDA. I don't mind having a separate phone and PDA....I realized that I just don't need my PDA on my person at all times during the day.

Lol, oh man... I can't wait to go home at lunch and see if my phone was delivered. First thing I'm doing is calling my buddy Dane Sanders to set up a time we can hook up and compare our toys. I know the 650 is a gnarly awesome phone, but I'm telling you, this A1000 is something else. Shoot, you can't even buy them in the states that I know of. :-)
Heads up everyone, Dane might be looking to make one of you guys a deal on his 650 when he sees my new phone. ;-)

Hi to all you techno geeks

. I'm one of those who is still stuck back in 2001 with my paper calendar and cell phone. I'm going to ask some really dumb questions and appreciate you bearing with me. If you answer, pretend like I'm a 6 year old cause that's how I feel with this stuff

.
I have an apple laptop and use Entourage for my email organization and have bluetooth with wireless in my house. But I'm really interested in being able to get my emails wherever I'm at when I'm travelling.
Am I understanding correctly that I could get the Treo 650 and pay T-Mobile or Cingular to be able to get my email on the phone?
And would I also be able to get my email on my laptop if I had my phone close to it because of bluetooth?
If I got my email on the Treo while away from my computer, is there a way to sync it so that those emails show up in Entourage on my computer?
Also, is there a program that I could sync my calendar and contacts to for Macs?
Anybody know off-hand how much it costs through cell providers for the ability to get emails?
Thanks--you guys are great!!

Hi Melissa,
I think I know the answers to your Treo based questions. But since I don't personally own one, I'll defer and let the other guys that have one answer those questions... I wouldn't want to give you the wrong answer.
I am, however, an avid Apple user and I can answer your question about how to sync your calendar and contacts for Mac.
I think you are referring to a feature that is available from Apple called .Mac. It is a yearly subscription service and one of the feature it provides is called iSync. iSync allows eligible devices (and the Treo is eligible) to use Bluetooth to sync information on your Apple contact/calendar folder to your eligible device. So iSync takes care of managing data across the various devices you have; downloading changes from one to the other and updating each as necessary.
The link to the Apple iSync is:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/I hope I interpreted your question correctly and I hope the information is helpful.

I get my email delivered on my Sidekick, too. It's not a Treo, but it basically works the same...
I just setup my .mac email to forward a copy of everything to the email address I have setup for my phone and then I've got everything in both places. I pay for T-Mobile's unlimited data plan (like $25/mo, maybe?) since I do so much web browsing, emailing, etc. Depending on the provider, they have a plan for how much data xfer you use. Email doesn't really eat up too much.
As a note, T-Mobile doesn't sell the Treo 650, so if you have them, you'd have to buy an "Unlocked" phone from Palm, then you can use it on their network. Otherwise, you have to use Cingular or Sprint.
Any idea when a 700 may come out? With my luck, I'll buy the 650 the day before the 700 releases, lol.

I took the plunge, not really knowing for sure what I was getting myself into and got the Treo 650. I'm liking it a lot and trying to get organized with it. I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up my email. I was wondering if you, David, and others who have this set-up could share what you do. I have a mac laptop and desktop and want to get my email on both of those and the Treo. I could set up separate email addresses for my laptop and treo and just forward copies to each. I was wondering if there's a better way, though, because I would like to be able to reply to emails from any of these places and for the email address to be melissa@melissajill.com. Am I making sense? Is there a way to do this?

Sweet! I bet you're loving it!

I'm jealous!!! I only have the 600...I am soooooo lagging on technology!

oh well!
The best way to keep email consistent is to have your messages left on the server for a month or so (it's a setting inside your email program) and that way all your computers/phone will have a chance to download it.
What email program do you use?

I think I hear you Melissa. I have mine set up so each individual pop account retrieves particular emails on all my macs and my 650. You have to set it so that it leaves it on the server like DJ suggested but that way you can reply from the email you want. The downside is you end up deleting your emails in multiple places and have to keep track of that in your head. If you come up with a better way, let us know.
Melissa Jill
May 27 2005, 03:18 PM
Hey David & Dane,
Thanks for your replies. Let me make sure I understand. If you set up your server to keep the emails for a long time, you can use the same email address on all computers and the Treo and you will get copies of the same email in each place? That would be great! I looked around my Admin. Suite and couldn't find a way to have the emails kept on the server longer. I know yours is probably different than mine, but do you have an idea of where I would make that adjustment?
Thanks for your help!!
Melissa Jill
May 27 2005, 03:25 PM
Oh--David, I use Entourage on my Macs. And yeah! I think I figured it out. I looked on my account on Entourage and marked for it to leave a copy of each message on the server until I delete it from this computer. Thanks guys! I'm excited!!

Alright... everyone thought at this point that I made up the entire A1000 story... but seriously, I ordered one... it never came, still trying to recover my money from that situation... (long long story, buy me a drink and I'll tell you in person)
So, I bought another one... and it's here, and it's SICK!!! Soooo much to figure out on it still. I think at lunch today I'll be setting up web and stuff with Tmobile, and then tonight my girlfriend is going to have to fight my phone for time with me, cause I gotta learn how to use this thing... I'm a texting nut, and I still can't figure out how to type a text on this thing...

For anyone interested in both the nirvana that is Treo and how to optimize vonage, listen up! Everyone knows that Vonage has this cool feature where when you are left a voicemail, it attaches the vm (as a .wav file) to an email and gets sent to you. Well, this is great if you are on a laptop, but if you're on the treo, you can be out of luck to listen to the message.
That was until I found a
free .wav player called dioplayer for the treo. It works perfect. Just a heads up for the forward thinkers

I'm on Tmobile and a lowly 600 so maybe that's my problem.

I gave up on doing this a couple months ago because I found that it took a loooooong time to download a pretty typical 1 meg voicemail. How long does it take you?

Ummmm .... maybe 20 seconds on a big file (I've never timed it though). I just hit the download button and put my phone down. When I look up again, it's usually ready. Maybe I should keep field testing this for a while and report back if something's goes bad. But yesterday when I tried the wav player, it worked seemlessly. Pretty stoked.
