Full Version: Show it Slide Shows...

This is a question for all of you who do photography other than weddings. Do you make a slide show for EVERY portrait client? I have started having people ask "oh, you are going to make me one of those slide shows, aren't you?"

Here are some thoughts going through my head...
Pros:
1. It is a great marketing concept, because everyone will show all thier friends, therefore getting your name and images out there.
2. It is easy to make a show, and it could be very benificial for marketing purposes.

Cons:
1. What if you are not fond of the images from a particular shoot. Do you really want that on the web? You know how that session is where the customer doesn't wear the best clothes, or isn't the best looking, or chooses an ugly location... or all 3 of these things? The kind of sessions that you hope no one sees? (I don't have too many of these, but it does happen ocassionally.)
2. Even thought it is easy, you still have about 1/2 hour into getting it ready and uploading it to the web. So, this is adding a lot of extra time for every client.

Typically I put a link to the slide shows on my blog (one more step in the process). Since they are not password protected, anyone (prospective clients too) can look at every slide show. This could be a problem if there is something that I don't want representing my work due to the things mentioned above.

What do you do?

My g/f always asks me a related question. Do you put up everything you shoot on your blog? I do. I do a slideshow for every client. I may not list up the link for the slideshow for every client, but I do the slideshow for them.

Every single client feels special. Every single client raves about me. Every single one of them gets a slideshow. Some I just tell to email out the link to it until I get around to posting the link on their blog post.

We do them almost all of the time for portraits. Usually the only time we don't do them is if we get so swamped that we can't get them up. It seems like when that happens, we always get asked when it is going up and end up doing it.

Some of them Adam puts on our blog, some of them he doesn't. We always send our customers a direct link to view the slideshow, whether it is on the blog or not.
