Anybody have this problem before? My MBP (which I only got in September) recently started shutting down randomly, but only when running on the battery power. It was fine if plugged in. So now, it won't even turn on by the battery. The battery shows a full charge and when it's plugged into the wall, it sees that there is a battery and it shows it as fully charged, but it wont run off of it! and as soon as you unplug it.....boom....dies out. Does that sound more like a problem with the computer or the battery? I'm gonna take it to the genius bar but I was just curious if anyone has had any experience with this problem and how costly a repair it could be unsure.gif .....Any thoughts or advice appreciated!

New battery costs $110-$120

(I know because mine warped/expanded inside my laptop, and I just had to replace it 1 week ago. Luckily it was still under warranty).

Maybe the contacts are bad between the battery and laptop? Or, as you said, could just be a battery problem.

Sounds like the battery, don't be afraid to ask for a new one (nicely of course) biggrin.gif Did you buy the warranty?

If you only got it last September it'll be covered by warranty. The standard warranty is one year.

Thanks for the responses guys! I wasn't sure if it was the battery or not because the laptop DOES recognize that the battery is attached (it shows it as fully charged while plugged into the wall) but it will not run off of its power....weird. Anyhoo....hopefully then when I go to the Apple store they will just give me a new battery. Here's hopin! 51.gif

Misty,

Go to the apple store with your laptop and battery and go to the genius bar. They will test it for you there. And if it is the battery, they'll give you a new one.

And if John Paul (the albino scottish blonde dude) is there and/or helping you, tell him I said that I miss him and we must drink again since I missed Robbie Burns day with him.

PS. Haven't forgotten you and your cd. Things have been a complete mess down here.

Hey Beth!

I took it there last night and they indeed are going to replace the battery, however they had none in stock so they had to order it for me. John Paul was there but he's not the one who helped me...I was wondering why he was wearing sunglasses though....I guess that clears that up! lol Yeah....I haven't forgotten your disc either....but likewise things have been crazy on my end of the world as well LOL. I'm hoping to get caught up this weekend and have it in the mail to you on Monday. thumbsup.gif

Thanks everyone for the replies!!! biggrin.gif
