Rob and Lauren
So here's the deal:

Right now we're just getting into this business. This summer will be our first of shooting weddings. This means we're probably new enough to do a name change without losing too much rep (at least I hope so).

We started off with three members and came up with the name: 3point photography

We've worked under it for the past year or so now. However, the third member dropped out quite some time ago, so the name, while cool sounding, no longer has much meaning at all.

We also want to provide a very personal and fun service. We want our clients to see us as people (hopefully friends), not just a business that they are hiring. And so we thought we should change our name and go by: Rob & Lauren Photographers

Here's the catch. Quite a few of our friends were quite upset to hear about this. Apparently they thought 3point was a good name, we had a good logo etc. No arguments, but I just don't think it will grow with us the same way rob & lauren will.

Any thoughts? Especially from those of you who changed from a company-type name to your own name!

Thanks so much friends!

That's interesting because I was just about to do the opposite.
I'd love to know what others say on this one.

P.S. I like them both. 3point is pretty catchy, but if a perfect 'fit' is what you need, then the latter makes sense. If you're Christians, '3point' might still have a relevant.

I would highly suggest reading the book The Brand Called You.

I had a company-type name and changed it. I've been SO much happier!

Are you married to Rob? If not, I would be careful about that name. What if the two of you didn't photograph weddings together any more? What if you had to find a new partner?

If you are married to Rob, then I think it is ok to use the name Rob and Lauren Photography.

Ditto what Kari says, what if you split a few years down the line then you almost will certainly lose some customers who are searching for your old name. I am not a big fan of own names , but thats just me. Therefore I would stay with 3 point, you see I am in the UK thousands of miles from you but if someone asked me last week if I had heard of 3 point photography I would have said yes because it is stuck in my head, if you asked me for rob and lauren well it doesnt need saying, Again I personally think that if its easy to remember and spell and therefore search for , thats whats important , do people really think you wont get a gig because one of your founding members has left! bizarre
