Can anyone recommend a good flash shoe which I can use to attach my SB-600's to stands for shooting into an umbrella? I just received 2 mounts that I bought on ebay and the Sb-600 won't fit into them and I don't want to keep buying mounts that won't do me a bit of good.

Thanks! =)

Can you not use the screw mount on the bottom of the stand that came with your SB-600 to screw them into your brackets. I bought the Bogen/Manfrotto bracket mentioned on this site before and used the flash stand to screw it onto the stand. I hear this is actually better for the flash because there is a chance of short circuiting. Maybe it is just a rumor though. If you bought the flash second hand I'd see if your local camera store has a flash stand. They screw onto any standard sized tripod mount.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

This is the exact setup i have as well. Thanks for acutally taking a picture of it. Question, how do you find the CLS system. Do you get consistent shots with this setup. Do you use PW's?

There are a lot a variables. In controlled settings it works well with CLS. I have done this with a high key setup many times. Even with the flash units behind the umbrellas I get great results.

For anything tricky I will go to PW's.

The CLS when used within its limits is great!

Another note. You can use CLS as a IR trigger for the strobes while in manual and it takes all the headache of iTTL out of the picture. The only real problem is metering but alot of meters (like the Sekonic L358) have a feature that senses the flash burst and you can meter that way.

Its not perfect, does not have the range of PWs, but in my experience in pinch it is managable.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I actually solved the problem in the short term by using some liquid welding compound to attach the SB-600's included stands to the flash shoes that I bought. Since everything is black you don't notice it and it'll suffice until I get something better. smile.gif
