Looking to buy a new intel iMac. What would be money best spent? Also as a sidebar, whats the main benefit of an upgraded graphics card?

Thanks alot,

Nick

Get the extra ram... but don't but it from Apple, you can get it much cheaper elsewhere. And don't worry photo editing is a-ok on the 20" display, I worked on two 20" iMacs for a year before upgrading to a Power Mac and a 30" cinema display.

+1

And if I may add, you can always hook up a bigger monitor if you need to.

Tag...I'm in the same boat.

Where is a good place to buy ram for an iMac?

Thanks!

Any where but Apple. You can always check Crucial they are fairly decent pricewise

Thanks. That does save some money. I sure with the iMac came with one 1gb card rather than 2 512mb cards!

Yeah it's kinda silly. What you can always do is buy the iMac with 512mb then sell that stick and buy two new 1GB sticks

I think that is the initial plan. It will come with (2) 512mb cards. I'll buy (2) 1gb cards and pull (1) 512mb card out. Then, when I get some extra money, pick up another 1gb card to replace the remaining 512 card. So, for just over $300 I'll have 3gb or ram instead of paying Apple $750 for 3gb of ram. smile.gif

Sweet, thanks for the help, guys. I have used crucial before for RAM and they have pretty good prices.
