What I started noticing the last 3 days on my Word Press http://rwoutsidethebox.com website - - -are all kinds of Trackbacks from non-existent websites. it's always a different website and names always kind of music group or military names:

Website: military space available travel (IP: 213.85.161.165 , 213.85.161.165)

First off I have no idea what a TRACKBACK is - or why and how I would be getting such a thing.

Even though this might be slightly different than the original thread, I thought I would post it because it may be a similar thing going on - - - and they both are related to WORDPRESS.

Manus,
I use Spam Karma for my wordpress blog. It's killed 99% of the spam. Once in a blue moon, one sneeks in but it's been pretty awesome.

You have to get a key from http://akismet.com/ to use it on your blog. So signup on their website and activate it! It works WONDERFULLY!!!!! No spam since I activated it.

There are a few plugins - Akismet works wells but requires you to register on wordpress.com (hosted version) to get a key. Some hosts don't allow the outgoing requests to check the spam, but their database is constantly updated.

Bad Behavior and Spam Karma are the other top ones, I believe.

Yeh I think for akismet, you need to pay for commercial use. But I will definitely take a look at these options. Thanks!

Anyone use captcha? Can they be compared? One better than the other?

Peronally I manually approve all comments on my blog cause I too was hit with the blog spam... now I know viagra has a lot to do with weddings but I don't think my clients need to know about it, so once or twice a day I check the comments "awaiting" approval.
