I need every ones input on this, especially from those of you who have done commercial photography or are represented by stock agency's. wink.gif

I have the opportunity to do some photography for a company that is interested in building their image library. They offer their clients the ability to create those small, medium & large post card mailers that you find in your mailbox on any given day. I think most of their clients are people that deal in real estate.

Any hoo after discussing their needs, they were interested in having me do some photography of high end homes, interiors, doors, landscapes etc. basically they want all types of images.

They don't want to pay me by the hour, they want to pay me on a per image basis. I have never done this type of photography, so I am trying to figure out how to price my images.

Can anyone give me some ideas? Oh & they also want some usage rights. They are not interested in selling the images, they are basically turned off by the number of uses they are limited to by stock agency's. They want their clients to have the freedom & ability to use & reuse an image X amount of times, when they create their own mailers. unsure.gif

Appreciate your help in advance,
KerieCleveland
I say no less than $200 a shot plus expenses. Think about what your day rate is and how many images you can do in a day. Hope that helps a little

Wow... since they don't clearly define their exact use of the images, it's hard to put a price on it. They could be worth thousands per shot if they were used for something big, or just a few hundred or less if they use them for something small. They want to purchase the images outright? Can you ever sell those images for anything else, or do they become the property of this company?

Thank you guys for giving me some input, all they are wanting to do with the images is allow all their clients the ability to be able to use & reuse any of the images in the library an innumerable number of times without breaking any agreements.

They are not interested in selling or doing any type of large campaign type advertising. I still keep the rights to the images & use them in any way I wish, they on they other hand will not be able to sell, or do anything else with them other then what they are intended for. Initially they wanted complete rights to the images, but I resisted & refused.

Thanks,
Tim Halberg
Awesome,

I'm stoked to hear that you stood up for your trade and didn't sell them full rights to your images. And good to hear you can still use them freely as well while they use them.

I hope it works out to be a great deal for you and that you get more jobs from this down the road.
