ConAgra Foods Inc. told consumers to discard certain jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter after the spread was linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened almost 300 people nationwide.
I thought my oldest son had the flu last week because my youngest had it the week before. He was running a fever and feeling lethargic but his symptoms were much worse than the strain of the flu my youngest son had. He was also complaining of a tummy ache and his legs hurt. I took him to the doctor and he did some tests and come to find out the poor baby had salmonella poisoning. I had no idea until this report came out yesterday that he actually got it from peanut butter. He was the only one who had eaten the peanut butter (it is his favorite after school treat) Anyway needless to say when I heard this I freaked out and now I feel like the worst mom in the world. The doctor said most cases of this cure themselves and I should not worry but it seriously it scares me to death. He is perfectly fine now but just today started eating again.
If you have a jar of peter pan or great value peanut butter, and it has the numbers 2111 on the lid. Toss the jar.

I got sick from this last week. It kinda hacks me off that ConAgra has known about the problem for MONTHS.

It makes you wonder how something that comes mainly from chicken poop ended up in the peanut butter....

I never buy anything except Kraft..until last week.
I bought Great Value, and I have eaten it so far with no ill effects...
but I can't find the lot number anywhere. Only an expiry date.
Anyone know exactly where to look???
Thanks
Jen

It is ontop of the lid. We had the great value one too. I think the bad one starts with #2111 and then a bunch of numbers after that. Ontop of the lid, on the outside of the jar.

Thanks AKS.
My lid is blank though.
I wonder if it's different because I'm in Canada?

I just read about about that before coming to OSP. Thanks for letting us know and I hope your son continues to feel better.

Aww, that stinks! We had one too, although none of us have gotten sick at all. You can actually toss the jar and mail the lid in for a refund.

I know but I figured that was more effort then I have time to save $2.00 by mailing it in.
