Hi,

There is a local wedding show here in Vancouver, WA on Sunday. It was too late for me to get a booth, so I am thinking if could go there and approach the vendors. What would be the best way to do that? Should I have my laptop ready with some slideshows, albums, or just give away business cards and try to talk to them.

Can I just walk around with my laptop open and runing some slideshows and give away business cards to brides? I am afraid they (the hosts) could kick me off for doing that...

Yeah, I would be willing to bet that wouldn't go over well with the show organizers or other photographers who paid to be there. You're better off planning for a future fair. That's my take.

Hmmm... I don't think walking around with your laptop and giving away business cards would make people very happy. And it probably wouldn't look so hot to potential brides either. They'd be wondering why you didn't have your own booth. I'd also think that bugging the other vendors during the show wouldn't win any points either. They will want to be concentrating on potential customers, not another vendor who wants referrals.

This year will be the first time I've gone to a show as a vendor. (With a booth) I go every year and check it out, and I am friendly and say hi to the photographers and vendors that I know, but I've never handed anything out to anyone, and I didn't approach brides either. I agree with planning ahead for next year. Go see what's cooking and get some really cool ideas for how to out do everyone next year!!

Thank you, I will go then and see what the others offer.

Alex,
Great idea to go and get an idea of what everyone has to offer. If a vendor is not busy, by all means introduce yourself as a photographer and ask for their business card and/or handouts. Telling them that you'd like to find some vendors to refer to your clients is flattering and most should be more than happy to give you their information. If I were you I would NOT offer my card unless they ask because you want to respect their position that they are a paid vendor and not wanting solicitations at their show. Have fun!
