OK - I have a story I have to share with you guys. I submitted a bunch of photos to Bride and Bloom Magazine a while back, and I was pleased that they ran a bunch of my pictures in the last issues. Last night I received an advanced copy of the third addition (spring) of their mag. Like a kid opening up Christmas gifts I rifled through it looking for my photos. I was happy to see 2 pictures and then I get to the back and I have the back cover !! It looks awesome, and I am really STOKED.

No photo credit which is common for the front and back, and look for it on the first few pages. THE CREDIT READS "JOHN AND JOSEPH PHOTOGRAPHY"!! I am like WHAT!?!? Holy crap this is a big mistake....My assistant who is standing next to me immediately says "OK - Jason take a deep breath and relax. Maybe it is somewhere else."

Nope. This is a BIG mistake. I felt like Ashton Kutshcer was gonna come out with a film crew because this was just too much. I called them last night and surprisingly the owner answered the phone. She was speechless - and replied "Um, yes that is a big mistake, can I call you back? I want to look into this." I'm still waiting....

Anyway - for those of you who get the magazine - this is my shot. smile.gif

I know that feeling. I have that done to me too. I guess I could off made a big stink about it. I just them know of the mistake and the next time, the credit was on there. Congratulations!!!!

Thanks guys! Unbelievable. This is my first back cover - or cover of any kind so I was a little disappointed. But - as long as someone knows. smile.gif

I vote for the next issue "make up " article!

did you call the editor yet? I would assume they will issue a correction and probably give you some sort of credit, or another back page run,

crazy stuff

Honestly - there is no excuse for this... We are giving them free photography for photo credit - it is there job to get it right. People make mistakes - but front and back cover? Wow.

I did - I am waiting to here back from them....you know it's funny, I would love to get another cover, but I want it to be on MY merits - not for pity. But - I guess you guys would be the only ones who knew. smile.gif

Wow, congratulations on making the back cover! I know it had to be so disappointing for them to mess up the credit after such a great achievement. Keep us posted on how they handle it. I'm sure they will fix this somehow. I know I would. I really like Jillian's idea....wouldn't that be great if they did an article on you?
Floyd
Hi Jason,

I've also done work for the magazine....I know the editor and art director, and I'm sure this was an honest mistake. They've been extremely busy down there (the magazine was newly released last year and the website was just recently launched), and the staff is growing very quickly. Rest assured this matter will be corrected and every effort will be made to prevent similar mistakes in the future.

That would be cool.... but I'd really like it to be because they like my work, not because they made a mistake. I guess I should take what I can get right?

True...but you can STILL tell your clients that your image is featured on the back cover of an internationally distributed bridal magazine. thumbsup.gif

By the way, I had a look at your website....good stuff. Did you know your pricing page reads a little redundantly?

There is definitely something in the air! While I was away Liz called me in California in the middle of the night. The Carbon Monoxide detectors were going off and for no reason at all, she wound up having to call the fire dept. and they found nothing!! Oh yea, and it would have been my Dad's 65th Birthday that day. Yesterday his picture fell off the mantle - CREEPY. smile.gif

Floyd - I know! I am super stoked to be a part of their publication so I am trying not to get too upset. They used a ton of my photos in the last issue and I really am honored to be in their with so many other great Photogs.

Thanks for message on the pricing page - I have tried to fix it so many times i gave up. I am working on a new site so I just let it be....

hey jason! that's awesome!

for both the cover AND the mistake. you can make a big pitcher of lemonaid with this one. whoever the REASONABLE person at the mag is will realize that this was an ENORMOUS mistake, and they should compensate you with a BIG article. and it's not for 'pity'. they ran you on the cover because you are THAT good. now make sure that this works to your advantage. do NOT settle for less. i'm sure they'll be cool about it, but don't wait for them, i'd keep pestering them - in the NICEST way possible.

Robin - true words of wisdom, thank you. A giant pitcher of lemonade is definitely in order! I have no doubt this will be resolved in a professional way. They have been so nice up to this point - I just hope nobody got in too much trouble over this. That would make me feel awful...

I'll keep you posted for sure!

By the way I never had a chance to say great meeting you!! We never talked about how close we are to each other. Not to threadjack my own thread, but would you be interested at speaking at a NYC PUG one day? It think they would love you - there is always so much talk about albums and design...

Good luck!

Talk with the mag. Maybe they can compensate you with a free ad in a future issue.

+1.

I completely agree. I remember Mike Colon talking about Grace Ormonde accidentally spelled his website wrong (or something like that) in one of their magazines, and instead of blasting her when she called to apologize, he interupted her and said, "Say no more, you have nothing to apologize for. I don't want you to mention it again." Since then he's pretty much the main photographer for them, he's in pretty much every issue! smile.gif.

Put yourself in the magazine's shoes. Obviously, they need photographers and feature them all the time. I think if you respond in the right way, you'll be more than compensated. thumbsup.gif

Regardless, congrats on getting featured!! That's so cool!

Thanks Chris - I guess what made it worse for me is it is one of my favorite shots.

When I spoke with them last night I was nothing but polite. I really caught her off guard though and she wanted off the phone immediately.... I havent heard back, but it hasnt been that long and I am sure they will find a way to thank me. They already have in a way, so if I get in their good graces more that would be even better.

We had a local baby publication give credit for one of our favorite photos to another photographer. They ended up giving us a full page ad in the next issue (rather than the 1/2 page that we do). We got the most referrals ever from the issue where they upgraded our ad. Wish we could always afford a full page ad, but we can't right now.

Wow, weird... well there's an old southern wives' tale about if a picture falls off the wall, it means someone died. So maybe instead it was your dad just passing through on his birthday.

Update.

I just got off the phone with B + B and they were very nice. She apologized for the mix up and she gave me a couple of options, one of which is another back cover. AWESOME. smile.gif

Now I have to find another killer shot! No pressure. wacko.gif

Thank you everyone for your support, the big hugs meant a lot to me.

Glad it worked out.

Hey Jason!
Glad to hear everything worked out...the people at B&B are pretty awesome. Reading through the posts though, I'm sure you picked that up!
And Chris Humphrey's recounted the same story about Mike I was going to mention...it's good to know there are many people here who offer sound advice and practical application! wub.gif
Lisa F
I didn't know about B&B, so I went to their website and there are some photos that gave the other photogs credit...just thought however or whoever made the mistake maybe they mis-credited the website photos as well.....you should check out the website for that.

CONGRATS!!!!

Yep, I would ask for something. Another back cover with your name "big" on it. Anything. Just be nice and ask if they can do something for you. Suggest a few things! ;-) One time this happened to me and I was new at photography. Man I gave them my mind. They decided not to work with me again. I called and said I was sorry about going overboard. for the next 5 years I ended up making $25,000 off of stock use. So being mad never works on a mistake of this kind.
