Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I can't find it in detail in any of the postings.

I noticed in a previous thread someone brought up ASCAP and paying for a license. Well i checked them out, and from what i can tell, it only costs $288 and you can play pretty much whatever music you want on your website, as long as it is "non-interactive" and can't be downloaded or distributed to/by others.

This almost seems too good to be true. I have been obsessing over the band "the frey" right now and want so badly to use their music for my new website I'm working on. It seems it might be possible?

Has anyone else done this? Am I missing something?

Is it too good to be true?!?!

You can check out their website at http://www.ascap.com/weblicense/

I am pretty sure that the ASCAP licensing just covers the song itself, not the recording of the song. To license the recording you would have to deal with the record company. So for $288 you could have a recording on your website of yourself singing the song. smile.gif

That's correct...it's only one of the pieces needed...it's a bummer but they're slowly coming around so I don't think it'll be long before we're able to get music on our sites legally.

I figured. Thanks for clarifying. I should have known it wouldn't be that easy smile.gif
