I'm wanting a cheap used flash to have on hand as a back-up in case something happened to my main flashes. I can get this one pretty cheap. You guys know if it will work or not on a D200 and D70?

I'm pretty sure it will work...but you will not have i-TTL.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Good luck,

Yes, it'll work. Not sure if you get any TTL flash metering at all (certainly not iTTL or dTTL). That's not necessarily a bad thing. It'll work on Auto and Manual. The SB-24 was made before you could do flash settings on the camera, so they're built into the flash. Like rear-curtain sync and the like. Making these settings on the camera will probably work, too. I'm not positive. This flash was made for the F4 (and 8008). It's really powerful, but big compared to an SB-800.

I have a manual for it if you end up getting one. Don't have the flash any more.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and ordered a 28DX instead. I should be able to use most of the features on that one.

The 24 and 28 will not provide TTL metering on D70 or newer bodies. You can still configure them for manual or Aperture priority (just as if you were using it on an old-school fully-manual body)

The DX model of the SB-28 should, right?

No TTL whatsoever on D70, D200. It will on D2x. I have a 28dx that works great on the D2x. It won't even fire in TTL mode on the D200 (or D70). We just went through this today. It's M or A only I'm afraid.

Well dang! I am starting to shoot a lot more in manual mode though. I did order the SB-28DX thinking it would work just fine. Oh well. I'm still excited about the new D200 that the UPS man will have for me tomorrow.

Thanks for advice everyone.

Do some research in the next model, the SB-80. That might be recent enough, but cheaper since it's yesterday's news.
