Full Version: Another Georgia Photographer

Joe Dallas
Hello everyone! Thought I would introduce myself and our business jk Dallas Photography. We are in Columbus GA, just south of Atlanta.
jk Dallas Photography is me, my wife Kathy and our son Joseph. We photograph weddings together and seperately. Kathy and I photographed our first wedding in 1975 or as Joseph says "while the earth was still cooling". We shoot weddings all over the state, much of our work is in the Atlanta area. We shot a double wedding in Savannah last Sept that is published in the most recent issue of Weddings Unveiled. That was the second double we have shot in our career, first one was in 1979.

The avatar is me, Joseph and Kathy, one of the rare times someone took a photo of the three of us. We were on a boat going out to Alcatraz last Sept.
For those reading the other thread about telling something interesting about themselves, I was also hit by a car. Happened the day I got out of 5th grade. It took a year before I could lay flat in bed and not hurt to breathe. I don't know if it had anything to do with becoming a photographer, but I do look both ways when crossing a street!
When I am not photographing or sitting in front of a computer, I make wheel-thrown pottery, as in mugs, bowls, plates, pitchers and so on.
Joseph is getting married March 10th and right now I am making 200 mugs to give as favors to the guests.
Many of you have already met our daughter Heather Mason. She and her husband Kenneth are starting a photography business in Macon Ga. When they got married in 1999, I made 400 miniture pots as favors for guests.
Man, I'm glad we only had two kids!
Well that's enough for now. I don't post much on forums, but when I think I have something to add, I do.

Hey,

Welcome! I'm a GA girl too - although I don't live there right now.

That is so cool that one of your weddings is featured in Weddings Unveiled - I'll have to check it out!

Hey Dad!
Glad you posted an intro....and those 400 miniature pots were awesome! We took each one, put a hershey kiss in it, and wrapped it in tulle. I still have people tell me that they still have their's sitting on their window sills (hopefully they've eaten the kisses by now!).

BTW, you guys should see us when all 6 of us go on vacation together - we look like the paparrazzi...we were at the Atlanta Zoo one time, and someone stopped to ask if we worked for National Geographic LOL

Luv ya!

Welcome Joe! Someday I'll hope to have my kiddos walk in my photography-footsteps.

Your "Georgia phototrapher named Dallas" introduction reminds me of the movie Forest Gump...

"There was Dallas, from Phoenix; Cleveland - he was from Detroit; and Tex... well, I don't remember where Tex come from."

Welcome Joe,

I am originally from McDonough, GA, but we moved to Scaly Mountain, NC a year ago. Now I'm all of four miles out of Georgia. biggrin.gif I wish I'd known all the Georgia photogs I've 'met' on OSP when I actually lived in Georgia! Anyways, glad you're posting and hope to see you around some of the Atlanta events.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Katie- Maybe when we meet we can talk about clay.

Jill- It is cool to see your work in a magazine. The wedding was huge, 48 people in the combined bridal party, 500 guests.

Heather-Luv ya too.

Dan- having your kids have a passion for art and beauty and wanting to work with you is way cool. Our son goes by 'Dallas', all his buddies call him by his last name, so when we are working together it helps keep the confusion down having two Joes. Of course someone seemed puzzled at one wedding they asked "so you named your son Dallas Dallas?"

Mike- pleasure to meet you, maybe we can meet at a function in the ATL sometime

Ginger- We love the North Carolina Mtns. Our best friends live in Asheville.
