If your life was available for everyone to view in its entirety how long do you think the movie of the "final cut" would be? Do you think maybe 2 hours is enough?
I watched "The Final Cut" with Robin Williams and Mira Sorvino last night and it really has my wheels spinning.
I used to get freaked out thinking about what the mortician might see, all those clues about who we are and we are unable to be there to explain. Imagine the world through our eyes and ears video taped from the second we are born until we die. Our parents having an implant imbedded in our brains when we are in utero, then not telling us until we turn 21 whether we have an implant or not.
I was so intrigued by the concept of a "cutter". As photographers we edit in our own way what we see. People are vulnerable and trusting, which is a gift. Just imagine being given the tape of someone's entire life. I wouldn't want that job, not in a million years.
In the movie the Cutter's job was to portray the life as loved ones wanted to remember. The footage was broken down by some awesome machine into different categories: love, business, relationships, personal hygiene, masturbation, education, sadness, tragedy, etc. The things the cutter sees can be indescribable, horrific in fact. Imagine being a person who was in the life of someone who had died?
I have to say I was disturbed to think that at some point in time this would be totally possible to achieve. God is no cutter, but he sees everything and he is merciful and forgiving, thank heavens. What if our lives were in the hands of a human to decide how to portray? Is this scary to anyone?
Interesting movie, they really explored the "final cut" from many angles! It has me thinking for sure!
