So it is turning into a big ordeal, Vista computers are apparently built with 64 bit, while xp computers are 32 bit. So the compusa tech claimed yesterday that the motherboard was not compatible with xp. At this point I am just waiting to see what will happen.
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend to early adopt new Windows OS. Simply because, the third party support from companies that makes your printer, makes your video cards, makes your sound cards, makes your scanner, etc...needs to release stable drivers for the new operating system. Now, that said...what your tech told you at CompUSA is not entirely correct. Just about all new processor has the 64bit instruction set in them. (64bit versus 32bit is really processory dependant, not motherboard) However, that does not mean you have to run a 64bit operating system. In fact, Vista, like XP, has a 32bit version and a 64bit version. The 32bit version will run on all the modern processor. The 64bit version will only run on 64bit enabled processor. In the future, once all the applications are compiled specifically for 64bit computing, or when one need to access memory more than 4GB, then we can see the benefits of 64bit operating systems. Right now, 32bit is find for most of our needs.
All that to say, you can install regular old XP on your computer with absolutely no problem at all, provided you have a valid license of XP. If the tech tells you otherwise, I am sure he is incorrect.
