This weekend is my weekend off...no weddings, no devious sneaky little toddler running around the house. So my husband and I had our twice a month date night and this time around we decide to go have some italian and watch a movie. ...we went to see "Sahara" starring Matthew Maconacareforsomecofeehoney? (however you spell his darn last name) and Penelope Cruz.

I thought it was a brilliant beginning but man, it dragged for about an hour to just have the plot thicken. I would rather watch grass grow. dry.gif Anyhow...if any of you guys plan on watching a movie...don't see this one. I wanted to watch Fever Pitch but it wasn't my choice this time around.

Let's talk about what movies we've seen recently (on the box office or just a rented or bought dvd). I love watching movies when I can. What have you all seen recently?

One of my favorite movies won some Sundance awards. Its called SLAM! It's very well done and features one of my favorite poets, Saul Williams.

Other movies I enjoy:

Fight Club

One Hour Photo (Although Robin Williams creeps me out now)

--- Gregg

Ohh..I remember One Hour Photo. That guy was crazy. All I learned from that movie was how film was processed onced I dropped it off at the lab! tongue.gif

OH but you know what? I LLLLLLLLOVE all the Rocky movies. makes me wanna box everytime I see it. "Yo Adrian!"

+1 for Hitch. I'm not really a chick flick guy, but I took my wife to see this (it was her turn to choose) just recently. I laughed. I cried (from laughter).

Of course, the kids have to watch sometimes. The Incredibles was just awesome.

...oh, and as for Robin Williams....who'd a thunk it? Mork from Ork having the kind of range he has to go from Dead Poets, to Awakenings, to Aladdin, to Mrs. Doubtfire, to The Bird Cage, to Patch Adams, to One Hour Photo succesfully? He's just genius. smile.gif

The Incredibles is good!

The only thing is when we first got it my brothers watched it like five times in a row so now they know all the words and repeat it allllll the time!!!

We just had an Incredibles party last night, planned by my brothers and sisters, for all of our aldult friends who hadn't seen it yet!!! laugh.gif
Katherine
Ok...I'm going to make my husband watch HITCH. And then going to buy the Incredibles for us to watch with our kolohe (means rascal) toddler. It should be a fun family date night with that movie.

Has anyone seen the Ring 2? The first one freaked me out. I couldn't watch tv at night...and I couldn't leave the lights on behind a closed door. Yikes...freaked me out. It's those types of movies that have like the slow yet fastforwarded type creepy scenes that freak me out...like in Gothika....where that girl was slowly moving down to a hallway.
Katherine
I saw Closer last night....has anyone seen it?

Hitch is one of my favorite movies. I thought it was hilarious. I love the romantic adventure in the movie. This type of movie is what I am normally drawn to. However...

If you have not seen the documentary called Born Into Brothels it is definitely worth seeing. Before this I am not sure that I have ever seen a documentary in the movie theatre. I kind of got dragged to this one but it is incredible. It is about the children of the red light district of Calcutta. A photographer went in to these horrible conditions and she taught these children how see things in a different light. She used the camera is a tool. I think it was nominated for an Oscar. It made me think more about how I can use my talents. I think my heart is more with the children of Africa. I am thinking about spending some time there in the next little while.

I have seen closer. I thought it was a great movie with a very intelligent mind behind the scenes but it was very sad and depressing. There was just so much pain in those people's lives.

Yeah..

totally depressing.

I recently rented the Notebook. Totally love that movie too. close to the ending was sad but I loved the way it ended.

Oh..and my all time favorite movie is Steel Magnolias!!! That place was filmed not too far from here!

The Incredibles is good!

WooHoo! I love the Incredibles!

...I've been looking for a movie thread for a while -- not sure how I missed this.

A few that I've seen recently:

The Corporation: A documentary about... corporations. Pretty darn interesting. Even if you think the entire film is a bunch of hooah, it will definitely get you to think. I'd highly recommend this one!

The Layer Cake: It was okay. Pretty entertaining, but a bit too much thick accented language to really understand what was going on the whole time. I'd take Snatch over this one, and the humor in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is also better.

Star Wars: I had to watch this -- c'mon folks, I grew up with these. Yes, the visuals were pretty cool, and it was entertaining, but otherwise nothing I'd bother watching again soon.

Kung Fu Hustle: One of the better movies I have seen recently. Despite the violence (think Kill Bill), the film was awesome.
Katherine
I'm gonna check those movies out....

I want to go and see that new Adam Sandler movie out where he goes to prison and starts a football team. Anyone seen it yet?

I just watched the original "Flight of the Phoenix" the other night. It was AMAZING. With Jimmy Stewart and Ernest Borgnine and some other famous guys. I was totally amazed at how great it was. It had Blood, and Guts, and Crashes, and Drama, and Sweat, and Germans, and my favorite, whatever you call those visions you see when you are in the desert.

and the movie was made like, fifty years ago in that great Technicolor. With those beautiful cerulean blues and bright (!!) orange skin tones. My kind of classic.

I can't even remember the last time I watched a movie sad.gif

My goal is to watch one, a good one!!!!!

I'm going to try to take my 3yo son to the theater for the first time in his life. He wants to see Madagascar, but I'm not sure how he'll react to a crowded, dark room and loud speakers. We'll see.....

Saw "Traffic" this past week... Pretty awesome!!!

I just saw Cinderella Man yesterday, and both my wife and I loved it! It's a great story, with a little somethin' for everyone - good action for the guys, feel-good moments for the gals, and great writing/acting/directing/music/etc. for the real movie buffs!!!

AND there's an inspirational side to it as well. Err, kinda like Cinderalla...
Katherine
OH wow!!! I will definitely see those two! Brandon and I saw Hitch this past weekend. It was funny!!!!!!!

I have been seeing GI Jane on AMC all last week in the evening....lol....Alan if you read this..."This is KITTY KAT...Roger, I'm out!" smile.gif

We saw Owning Mahowny last night and thought it was pretty good. Philip Seymour Hoffman's (one of my favorite actors) movies tend to be a bit depressing, and this one didn't break that trend. Still a very good film, especially if you want to see Minnie Driver with blond, straight, 80's hair, complete with the huge bangs and large glasses. Awesome.
sarahbarlow
I just saw Cinderella man. It is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo AWESOME!! I loved it EVERYONE GO SEE IT!! Great story! What I really liked was the husband and wife's relationship, it was so strong and they loved each other through it all ! clap.gif thumbsup.gif wub.gif

I haven't seen this movie yet, but it looks interesting, being that it has Christopher Walken in it- and that probably will have a bunch of different weddings showcased and satirized.

It's called "Wedding Crashers".
Tricia
Everyone please go see Hitch!! The last part reminds me of Blaine and Bethany's wedding!!
I give it 2 thumbs up!

Saw Coach Carter last night and really enjoyed it...
Katherine
hey Tricia! I saw Hitch recently too! LOVED the ending with the bride and groom doing their groove thang!!!

Bumatay
I just saw Crash. Superb movie - probably the best writing I've seen in a very long time. This movie is all about great writing, great acting, harsh realities in our society, the lessons we can learn from how we all react differently with/without prejudice to different situations, and wow the moral(s) of the story is life changing. IMHO

I loved it so much I'm going to start a new thread on it for those that did see it.

Point me there! I loved it!

Hey...I saw the Skeleton Key this past weekend.

It's really not that great. The movie dragged on and on and it only got better towards the end. It's just about voodoo.
I wanted to see it because it was filmed in Louisiana...and folks...I saw how they liked to portray Louisiana people and that's just not true...lol

No wonder why people pick on me on here...28.gif

Anyone else seen anything recently?
amber holritz
Saw War of the Worlds tonight. Loved it. Just all around good stuff.

Also saw Hostage on DVD... it was a good show as well... kinda freaked out by the bad guy... but still cool.
Reuben
Saw Hotel Rawanda a few nights ago. It was sad and maddening to see how people just stood by while such terrible things were happening.
Katherine

I've actually met the man that this movie is based on. His story is incredible....so much more invloved than the movie. After his final arrest, he became a christian and repaid all the money he had stolen over the years. He currently works for the FBI. Amazing story

Holy cow... how do you manage to pay it all back???
