Here's a question for all of you that operate your own studios or just run the business from home. If this is your only occupation, and you don't have access to employer based healthcare, what do you do? Right now, I am using the insurance provided at work, but I will soon be going full time, and will be on my own. Do you have any suggestions? I hate to have to keep the day job just for the insurance!

we asked this question on here a while ago. there are various things from state to state that may or may not help. the problem is that as soon as you are not w/ a company then you may not have access to group health care...which makes your ins more costly and cover much less. If you have pre existing conditions that may not be covered for personal ins. I am told that certain states allow group ins for smaller companies (as small as 1 or 2 people) but here in FL that is not the case. I am also tld that certain things like the PPA offeres some nice coverage....but again not here in FL....it is fustrating that so many people talk about how important the small business is but do not make some things easy...however if your state offers these things then you are set....there is alwys starbucks...they have full coverage for part timers I am told :-)

Try Golden Rule, they primarily insure individuals and the rates for a high deductable plan and a HSA are reasonable. Just make sure you don't let your coverage lapse and most states can't penalize you for any preexisting conditions.
