Since a DVD slideshow is a great way to get referrals, why wouldn't you include one with each package?

And what do your direct competitors offer?

It is hard to get know that since they don't publish detailed price lists.

There are ways. (Though published price lists aren't necessarily what they are booking for anyway.) You should certainly be able to find out what the bigger studios are charging.

You can't forget: this is a competitive business. It's not all about each person having a "unique style and personal vision that speaks to a specific bride." You have to know what other people are charging.

I started doing some research. It varies. Some charge $1500 for a day, some $3000 + albums. Albums are different. Some offer matt some coffee table books. I will look around.

It is competitive. But some shop in Wal-Mart and some in Nordstrom's. Both stores can sell you shoes. So why people shop in Nordstrom's?

Alex... THis is a lot like my pricing structure.

I'm finding that the base package is attractive for folks who want to play with the a la carte stuff. Is the image CD the high res images? If so, why not use that as bait for the largest package, instead of the DVD slideshow. There's more real value in that.

Also, the top two packages are very close in terms of value. The client won't see enough value in 10 extra pages and a DVD slideshow to warrant going to the higher package. You offer a 12x12 in the a la carte menu, so why not offer it in the highest package?

just a couple of thoughts.

Thank you. The top two packages differ in time and number of pages.
I have been thinking about those packages and I gonna be sick soon.

I want to structure then such that I would make my minimum even with short wedding. I am thinking maybe offer different album sizes for different hours: short wedding - smaller album, longer wedding - larger album... ugh...

Alex,

One of the things that I learned at the Denis Reggie workshop is that there should be at least a 25% increase between each package level. Between 2 and 3 you are within $50, but Package 1 should be $6,000. I think the time difference and possibly the size difference 12x12 40 pages is good for that jump.

I think that the packages are good.

coreypolis
looks good. Where do you get most of your clients from? Seems like a small market down there unless you stretch into Portland. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes, definitely Portland.

Because Nordstrom's has an upscale image. The question is, do you?

No matter what you decide to charge, you will have competition (even Nordstrom's has competition). Pick out the photographers you hope to take clients away from and see what they are doing. But at the higher end, people don't choose on price - they choose on your experience with similar level events (as evidenced by your portfolio) and your reputation (referrals). If you don't have either, you are going to have to wait for someone to give you a break. It just depends on how much you want to work in the short run.

Your pics look great! Your packages are clear and look great as long as you have the ability to reach that market!

The price might be a bit off/high for starter. I am working on it right now.

I think the word "included" sounds better than the word "free". Nothing they are getting is free, maybe "complementary."
