OK, so everyone knows I struggle with album design. I'm eventually going to outsource everything, but it's not an option right now. So, I've been dabbling with InDesign and PS and laying off the templates (thanks Kevin).... I've been trying to hold myself to no more than three images per page...

CC is welcome and appreciated. Numbered for ease of ripping...

what are you complaining about?

looks beautiful.

Shane,

I am by no means an expert on album design.
But I am really impressed.

These layouts are clean and well thought out.

Are you sure you want to outsource?

With more time behind InDesign, you'll be teaching us all!

I really have nothing negative to say about this set.

Awesome Work Shane!!
I love it!

shane - you KNOW that car pic is like my favorite of all time!!!

the only thing i would tweak is the dimensions of the insets. for example, layout 3 is awesome... the pics down the side are all the same size. in layour 4, the inset pics vary in size. it would cleaner if the insets were the same dimensions. for vertical and horizontal pics, just rotate the dimensions. (does that make any sense?) insets that vary can make a clean design look awkward. try to keep edges even, also.

you are really improving. this is the best so far!!

and i must say your photogrpahy looks great!
Shane Snider
Thanks guys...

Robin, that makes sense. I'm going to revisit the insets. I've had some computer issues, so I only got to dabble in InDesign a little. (A Mac is in the forecast this year). Most was done in PS. Does anyone know how to set margins in PS?

Thanks again for the input...

Robin, I have to say you have great taste in friends. Bruce is a very cool dude.

Hey, Shane, what a kind thing to say ... do you miss me? tongue.gif

The album looks really good, and the pics are very nice. Good work!!

And I agree with Robin about the car pic ... fantastic! (Actually, I agree with Robin a lot these days - it's easier that way laughing.gif )

beautiful design.. Love the car picture shane..

Shane,

What do you mean, you want to outsource??? I think after you've dabbled enough into this you'll want to keep doing it. These look great. I love the car shot! I have watched you here & on your web site steadily improving over the past year!!!

Shane-
great photographs-
really nice layout-

the only thing that struck me a little funny at all was the photo of the car over the cake-

great work-that car shot is fabulous!

Dude, you don't need to outsource. Come on, I've seen your outsource designs and you know my opinion about them. You have clean lines, good storytelling images and everything flows well throughout the album. There are some things I would change but it looks like you can loose the outsource person. I say start churning these albums out for yourself and saving some money in the process. Good job.

Oh yea, I agree with Kayla. Your work improves every time you show us more work (even if it is a 60 minute slideshow). You know I'm joking, right? Not about the images but the slideshow, right? Nevermind...as the famous Matt McGraw would say, "Rock n' Roll!" Keep it up!

I don't know much about album design, and different styles appeal to different people. For me, many of these layouts feel a little cluttered without much flow to them. But.. that's me. One thing I do know for sure, you absolutely have to lose the drop shadow/glow effect on the "Erica and Mike" text. It's lookin reaaaalllllly cheezy. Altogether.. good work. smile.gif
danwatkins
Shane, buddy, I think they look great.

What are the chances I can come out and design some albums with...

oh, nevermind. smile.gif

Again, great work.

yes, what he said.. a little too cluttered for my taste..

one other thing.. I think that cake shot on layout 18.. with the shadow should be alone on its one page/spread. its way too powerful to be cluttered with the other pics.. & the pics are great.. just think they should be showcased a little better.. give them space to breath and be (my new catch phrase btw)

You guys are great. Cameron, I do appreciate your candor here. I'm going to work on not making everything so cluttered and using fewer images. I just want to add enough to tell the story. It's hard for me to leave stuff out. Is there a general rule of thumb for how many images should/shouldn't be on a pagespread?

And if you guys haven't already, check out Christobal and Kathleen's work. (That would be speedy here). They have both been a huge influence on my photography and have been extremely supportive. Chris has photonights here in Raleigh... I suggest you try to make it to the next one.

Rock'n'roll, indeed.

Heya Mulletman. I like this album bud, and I don't think that outsourcing is a necessity, unless you're just too busy to do it. You've done a pretty darn good job on this one man!

Miss the laughs at dinner for sure! And the salt. And Todor. lol.

PS....*LOVE LOVE LOVE* that car pic.

WE miss you way up here in canada Bruce. Just got in an order of stogies from Cuban Crafters in Miami, and thought of you. I'll have to see about Cigars International. If they ship to Canada, then I'm gold! Otherwise, expect a package to show up for me. wink.gif
bsteffine
Just like we discussed ... just let me know what you need. I'm actually surprised that CC shipped to you, so I'm not sure why CI couldn't do the same.

Maybe a visit to Canada should be planned. thumbsup.gif Got room for me?

Sorry, Shane!

Looks good to me.

Hi there,

Great job on the design. Glad to see someone else using indesign. It is so powerful isn't it! And once you start to flow...man!

Very nice work so far. Remember it's about the emotion. If you can envoke that you are on your way! Simple is always better.

Keep it up!

Chris
