I had no idea where to post this, but I'm trying to book a couple tickets for flights around Europe. I've been trying to contact Ryanair with some questions, but can't find an e-mail for them anywhere (just phone numbers or e-m for insurance) and the rates to call are astronomical.

>>>Does anyone have an e-mail address for Ryanair customer service?

>>>Does anyone know what country this is: 0871 246 0000
...or how to even dial it?

If you've ever flown Ryanair, here are some questions I had for them (in case someone knows the answers):

>I understand that there are fees for excess baggage. Having visited the Table of Fees (http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=CHARGES) it appears as though there is no fee if I book a ticket from the website (www.ryanair.com). Is that correct?

>If I book a ticket while at the airport or over the phone, it looks like 5.5 pounds per Kilo. Is that right?

>There is a fee to use a credit or debit card. Will I be able to book a flight online, then pay cash in person to avoid those fees?

I feel silly asking, but OSP seems to come to the rescue for everything.
Thanks in advance!

That's a UK number and you'd dial 011-0871 246 0000 to reach it.

Can't help on much of the rest.

Ryan air has really affordable flights. However if your luggage is even close to the limit, they will get you on overweight charges and they are hefty.
I have friends that flies Ryan air in Europe very often. One family was going on ski vacation and had weighed their luggage at home and it was then 18 kg. They felt very good about it, however at the terminal when checking in their bags they weighed on the RYAN air scale 21 kg. They had to pay over $100.00 in excess weight fee.

I totally say go for it, but pack so light it is unreal. There is a reason their flights are cheap and you need to book way in advance. I have not used them yet, since I travel with fairly young children, I figured it would be more of a hassle with their strict weight rules.

Good luck!

For the number to Europe, you usually take out the first 0, so I would dial that number like this: 011-8-71-246-0000

Another budget airline for Europe is easyjet.com. Just in case you are interested in another option. It is a pain to get in touch with Ryan Air. RyanAir is also a pain as in locations of airports. They normally fly out of airports that are abut an hour outside of the city you want to go to, and they charge you for transportation into that city. In Paris, it is 14 Euro each way to take the bus. Way cheaper than the taxi it might cost you, but still. EasyJet tends to fly out of more major airports.

Just my .02.

Thanks! Yeah...Easyjet looks like a nice alternative. Do you know if they have fees for baggage like Ryanair. Man, my head is hurting with all the Euro travel stuff. I'm very new to this!

I have not had a problem with them -- but my trips were just for a weekend, and I was living in france at the time.

Here is what their website says about baggage.

Baggage
Baggage Allowances

Each passenger is usually permitted

one standard piece of hand baggage to maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm, and
a free allowance of standard checked-in hold baggage to a maximum weight of 20kgs

A fee per kilo for excess weight over these allowances is charged prior to departure.

Each passenger is allowed a maximum hold baggage weight of 50 kilos including any sports equipment, subject to available space. The maximum weight for any single piece of baggage is 32 kilos. Freight or cargo items cannot be accepted as passenger baggage.

Infants who share your seat do not have a baggage allowance.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Hi Eddie,

I'll do my best to help.

The 0871 telephone number is a UK based higher rate phone number, hence the astronomical cost. Basically, they make a money from the phone call. If you look at this site www.saynoto0870.com , hit the search link and type in Ryanair, you'll get the correct geographical (i.e. normal) telephone numbers.

I haven't flown with Rynair but I have flown with Easyjet. Both of these airlines (plus several others) are 'no frills' airlines. You pay for everything. Part of their business strategy is to load planes quickly, use cheaper routes, i.e. out of city airports etc. That's also the reason that they want you to book online - lower costs = lower ticket price.

I'm not sure what your timescales are, but if you use this link, it'll take you to a flight checker that can find the cheapest flights using these budget airlines. (Sorry, I'm not sure how much use that'll be, it's just flights starting or ending in the UK)

Does that help?

Let me know if I can do anything else for you.

Thanks, you guys. All that stuff really does help!
Anybody know the difference between all the train routes and passes and options? I can give specifics if someone's really knowledgeable and interested in bestowing. happy.gif
Thank you all so much.
