Full Version: Hello and a quick question
OpenSourcePhoto > Who We Are :-) > All about You :-)
Regis Chen
Hello everyone, my name is Regis and this is my first post to the forum. It was a pleasure to meet many of you at the WPPI conference. I want to thank David for his persistence in getting me to get off my butt and get going in this business. I think if I were he, I would have given up on me a while back. I also want to thank Dane for getting me to take the Pictage plunge. Dane, you’d be proud, I am done with four of the Pictage classes, two to go.

I am still at the early stages of building the business and I am currently working on getting a web site up.

I would like to know if some of you would be willing to share with me some of the web design/hosting companies that you use. I appreciate any suggestions you may have.

I apologize for not having my face shot posted on the forum yet. I don’t have any decent one available. Even Tim’s baby picture looks twice as good as my baby picture. But no worries, I am planning on getting a haircut in the next few weeks and I’ll post my photo as soon as I get my official Photographer’s Cut.

Thanks!
Kurt
Welcome to the forum Regis. David and Dane are some great guys to get hooked up with at WPPI. Way to go with taking the Pictage plunge. You won't regret it.

But there is one thing that really bothers me. There's a photographers haircut! Why didn't anyone clue me in? No wonder my images aren't turning out the way I want. biggrin.gif

Anyway, glad your here.

Kurt

As for web stuff we are doing our own and learing through it all.

Hi Regis! Welcome to the forum.

I use Santa Barbara Web Hosting...their rates are pretty reasonable and they are super easy to work with...But, I know that DJ also has some space...ask him...

I do some design work. I could definitely help you get some ideas down and start conceptualizing. I don't do much of the building, but I have lots of friends that build websites...so shoot me an email and I can give you some names...janey@maryjanephotography.net

Regis! Yea Man!!! Glad everything is cruising and I'm hoping to be able to see you in a couple of weeks for the PIDE show in SD!

BTW - "MJ'" (aka. Janey, Mary Jane, etc...) was just featured in :-) (shhhh - I think it's still a secret) XXXXXXXXXXXX and they talked a lot about her awesome website...but she's too humble and shy to post up the article!!! If I can find it I'll put it up for everyone! haha...the cat's outta the bag now!

I just got my photographers haircut today wink.gif so my shots should be stellar for the next couple of weeks!

Hello again, thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the information.

Mary, thanks for your offer. If your time permits, I'll contact you next week to go over some ideas. Will you be attending the PIDE conference in San Diego later this month?

Katherine, thank you also for your suggestion. And to answer your question, and I can't say this too loud, but I am a Nikon shooter. I use a D100. I have three lenses. I have a 50mm 1.4, a 17-55mm 2.8, and a 70-200mm 2.8.

Thanks again,
Regis

Regis, I'm going to PIDE! Maybe we can meet there. But, I'm sure I can make some time for you next week...even if it is in the evening sometime...

Can't wait to see your work...

Be thinking about what exactly you want to represent about your photography and yourself...a website is all about finding who you are as a photographer (what is special about you and your vision)...and then trying to convey that through your site...

Talk later, MJ

Hello Regis, it's nice to have you here. My name is Josh and I'm also new on the forum. I noticed that you've been working on a website...so have I. I bought my domain name registration through godaddy.com and it worked out ok because they are so cheap. i think we paid something like 25 bucks for 3 years, the only thing that was wierd is that you have to un lock the domain name once you have a server so that the site can work. I don't know much about the web's workings, so a tech friend helped me figure out that that is what you have to do. We got our hosting with dreamhost.com. they work well, and we also signed up for that because it was only like 70 cents per month for the first year...i don't know if they still have that promo going or not, but it works for us well. i don't have much other web knowledge, but i've been able to pull in some help from others on the forum. peace. Josh and Ryan
