If you have a blog which is updated on a regular basis (daily, twice a week, weekly... anything that is more than mine!) would you direct your main URL to your site or to your blog?

My blog is not updated often enough to bring people directly to my blog. But I hope to change that in 2007! smile.gif

Mine goes to my main site.

Why not just have a link to both - a splash page ?

Kaitlin,

has anyone ever told you that you are very clever and in no way a ditzy blonde?

Yes - but it's a darn good excuse when I do silly things wink.gif

I just switched to bludomain so the splash page has a link to the blog. I also make a point of putting the links to both the main website and the blog in my email signature that way people who missed the blog are probably going to check it out when then get a reply email.

I'm one of the few people that don't use a website with flash but maybe that has nothing to do with what I'm going to say.... Anyway, about blogs, the company that built my website has just created new software to create a blog on your website so you no longer will be sending clients away from your site to visit your blog. So instead of giving Blogger and whomever else hits you can add more hits to your site which gets your site higher marks on google blah blah blah. So if you want info on this service the company is Polysys Consulting Actually this link will take you to a client list. I heard their first client to use this new service is the top client on the list Redline Faith. Once they finish mine I'll share it. From what I understand it will have a lot of cool features that blogger doesn't have and it will look just like my webpage aestheically but long like we are used to on blogger. So there ya go. I'm sure they can explain all the benefits better than I can. Actually my contact is Johnathan Pulos, his email if anyone is interested is: Johnathan Pulos

Ours goes to our website. Personally I hate splash pages, so it goes directly to our main site.

Building on Mark's point, if you have a Wordpress installation on your site, you're driving traffic within the same site, so you're not giving hits to another domain (ie, Blogger). You don't need a specific service through a webhost to do this though.

I think it's sufficient to link to your blog from your main site. Unless your blog is your portfolio and you religiously update it, I think the main should be the focal point with a link to the blog. Lynn isn't the only one who hates splash pages - I think they should at least serve a purpose (there are a ton out there that simply serve as a gate into the site - you've got one option...and that drives me crazy).

Hey wait a minute. I've used that line. You're right. It works wonders.

KAITLIN, by the way, ROCKS.

I was on blogger until last week when Kaitlin fixed my site up with Wordpress hosted on my own site. My traffic has DOUBLED just from the blog being hosted on my server. Plus, Wordpress is SO much easier than Blogger. And my own server is WAY WAY WAY faster and more reliable than Blogger.

Kaitlin, my next cat will be named after you. Kaptain Kaitlin. w00t.gif clap.gif

I splash with the option to either my site or my blog (which is updated very regularly/almost daily). Look what I did today!
