OK, so again, tonight after meeting with a bride and groom...they thought I was a lot younger than I am. I look like I'm around 17-19 on a good day...sometimes younger. I already had an appointment to get a hair cut and I'm trying to see if you like this style. I'm loving it and wanting to look a little more my age with it. smile.gif

honey, you and me both...i will be watching this thread with great anticipation!!!!

Yea, I'm a little nervous....but I think it's good....I need to do something! ph34r.gif

I know how you feel. Everyone always thinks my 17 and 22 year old sisters are older than me. I LOVE that haircut. If I didn't have such crazy fro hair I would get my hair cut like that in a heart beat! It is very feminine and sexy.

Once upon a time I used to have that same problem.

Cherish it. It goes away.

Katie, honestly, I think bangs are going to do the opposite of what you want.
stephanie
I dunno... I had the same problem and when I cut my hair like that, everyone said it made me look YOUNGER! AHH!!! So I grew the bangs out and gave myself a little deeper part on the side. I've also found that wearing a nice watch makes you look older. I don't know why but I can usually guess a persons real age by the watch they wear... maybe its just me.
Katie-6 of Four
I've tried the longer...swoop bangs, long hair...short hair...stll young. It does work better for me to frame my face. It make sit fresher.

I just have to comment on this. It reminds me of those Seiko commercials that were on in December. Lynn and I would laugh each time they came on. For a long while, I wore a Lego watch. Yes, Lego. I could change the colors of the links on the band. And the little ring around the watch. I have a few of them in different colors. Sadly, the clasp part broke on all of them so I can't wear them anymore. And to get a new clasp I have to buy a new watch. So, for Christmas, I got a "grown-up" watch. Nice, metal, gold and silver colored. Only with Mickey Mouse's hands showing the time. I just can't bring myself to wear a big-boy watch. So, according to Seiko, what tells people most about yourself is your watch. Not quite sure what to think.

Personally I think most people like longer hair better. And I never felt shorter hair made people look older. Just Gavs .03 worth though. thumbsup.gif

mmmmm.....I remember those days. But it's sort of hard to remember because they were SO LONG ago!

No sympathy here! biggrin.gif

Katie - I often have the same problem. I like the cut; I just don't know whether it will actually make you look older. Some of my friends have high school age sisters, and I've seen that kind of thing a lot among them - maybe they're trying to look older??? I'm not sure. You could always ask the person doing it what they think, or if they can offer any modifications to make it look more....sophisticated? Either way, I think it will look good on you, just not sure it will equate to looking older.
Melody
Hey Katie -

I had the same problem you do up until about 8 months ago. Two of my best friends do hair and were constantly on my butt about getting a "grown up haircut" (my hair was just like yours). I went though about 15 hairstyles that I loved that, to my dismay, would not have worked with my hair. I finally just let one of them put me in her chair & do what she wanted to (I trust her) and it turned out great. I would recommend talking to a stylist you trust about the styles you like and what will work with your hair - get thier input, it's what they do!
Katie-6 of Four
Well, we definitely dress well when we meet clients...that is not the issue at all. I think it won't necessarily make me look older, but it will be more sophisticated as Kaitlin said and that can lead to making me look older. biggrin.gif Instead of the "cute" look.

i'm in the same boat. i'm trying to find a new hair style for myself and i'm loooving the ones you posted of reese. i might have to print that off and take it to the salon! unsure.gif i'm soo nervous though because my hair has been long, straight, and boring since i was in JUNIOR HIGH! blink.gif .. and i'll be 24! *edit* TOMORROW! laugh.gif

I was thinking the bangs would make you look younger, too. I had braces in my 30s and got carded for tobacco (not for me).

I personally love short bangs but I think it is mainly because I am destined to never have them. Curly hair and bangs generally do not mix. I'm so jealous that you even have the option of so many hair styles. If anyone ever needs extra hair I will gladly donate. I have way too much and I feel like it always looks so boring. Please post pics as soon as you take the plunge and do something dramatic.

Nothin' makes you look older like getting pregnant......just a thought.

Enjoy being young while you can.

Definitely do not wear your hair in a bun. If there's any way to look frumpy, that's it.

Personally, I feel that the bangs will make you look even younger than you are. Short bangs will in no way make you appear older. I would opt for a somewhere-between-the-chin-and-shoulder-length blunt bob (razored), angled slightly lower in the front to give you some edge and more of a mature look. If there's no arguing the bangs, atleast have them eye- or nose-length, with your hair in a deep side part so they swoop nicely to the side.

You want to look fresh and modern, because that's (usually) the modern bride.
jkantor
Coffee, cigarettes, too much sun, too little sleep, a few years working in a cubicle, and a couple of bad relationships, and you'll look all grown up.

coreypolis
photoshop + new possible hair styles + your pic = answer?
LukeWalker
growing a goatee helped me!! laughing.gif
Katie-6 of Four
I'm going to opt out of the smoking, sun and gotee...thanks for the wonderful ideas though! rolleyes.gif

I am not so worried about the cut making me look younger...I just want a cut with more style. That is what I am going for. A year ago i chopped to my chin...adorable....but the husband wants it long. smile.gif SO, I'm trying to find something modern while having it long too....just to give you some back ground.

[threadjack]If you're serious, you really should donate it. My daughter has donated her hair twice. The first time was a couple years ago and then again just last month. She donated 11" the first time and 10" the second time. Then another inch was cut off because she needed a style cut afterwards.[/threadjack]

Im trying to go the other direction laughing.gif

LOL! I got the same problem! I'm turning 36 soon and to everyone else out there, I look like I'm in my mid 20s! Tried dressing more appropriately like in khakis and a collared shirt to growing a goatee to wearing glasses. No matter what I do, I still look like some college grad. unsure.gif

Well, I do act my age...I think. blink.gif
Matt
a rockin presentation and awesome samples will trump looking young... just get your stuff together and they wont care if you look 16. the only reason the age "look" is going against you is because it is hard to trust a 16 yr old... but if you can "wow" them from the get go... they will trust you and not care you look like a teenager!

because believe me... i have the same problem... i look 16 on a good day... if i didnt shave for the past 3 days!

You can always go retro and get a perm!

+1 - GREAT advice!

I have the same problem looking much younger.

I look older with shoulder length (or a little shorter) hair with long layers... NO bangs... bangs are BAD. And I have a "grown up" Bulova watch! thumbsup.gif

Katie, were you really up at 4:15am to check this out?! Whoa!

I love Reese's hair cut, but I also think it looks too young. She's too f-ing gorgeous, huh?

I'm going to cut mine like Victoria Beckham's short angled bob! I love change. I have braces and I'm 28, so brides ALWAYS think I'm younger. I always slip in my age somehow when we talk! Like, "when I graduated in '96 I knew this is what I wanted to do" or "my husband and I have been together for 10 years, since college". That usually does the trick! Post a pick of your new cut when you get it!

Good luck, Z.

Ditto Ashley Anne! I have super curly hair, and it can basically be done two ways...long or short. *sigh*

Can't wait to see the new 'do Katie!

Keep in mind that it's been a long day. It would look better fresh. I don't think it makes me look any younger...not much could. I really love it. I can keep the bangs down if I want or swoop them to the side mixing in with the other longer swoop bangs...I'm really happy! biggrin.gif

Gorgeous. Much like my Ex campus chaplain's (Baptist Bible College) wife's hair. You can see them at my new site, http://tmillerphoto.com/blu_site/ They're in the studio and portrait sections. =o) Really cute couple, he's got a HUGE smile on all the time. =o)

Again, good choice... love it!
