I had an interesting situation this weekend. I was shooting a wedding at the St. Johns church across the street from the RCA Dome (yes...GO COLTS!!)...and this is a four lane one way street. So the bridal party is getting in the limo to head to the reception when the bride's veil is blown off her head by the 30mph, -5 degree windchill wind. It is flying out in to the street, so I look quickly and then dash after the veil across the road. I caught up with it about at the sidewalk on the other side.
I didn't think a whole lot about it, but once we were to the reception the bride kept thanking me for running after it for her.
I have thought about it and I am hoping that in my reaction that I did look across all four lanes of traffic...at least I think I did.
Needless to say I think I won a few brownie points with the bride's maids as well in the "aww/sweet" factor.

ha! that's a great story... so glad you didn't get smacked by a car!

Yes, please be careful....I don't think you'd fare as well as the veil if you were hit by a car!! Glad you're safe and was able to impress the bride!

And no pics of it?????


My assistants are well trained to photograph me doing anything heroic (or stupid) for posterity sake!

I am very thankful that I was not hurt as well. It was more of a reaction when I saw it go into the first lane. Then I felt like the guy grabbing for the dollar bill on a string. I would get so close and then the wind would grab it and throw it into the next lane of traffic!
It would have made for a great shot, but everybody was already in the limo. The groom was holding up her dress for her and the limo driver was probably looking at the picture of Peyton Manning on the Dome.
I was just impressed that the veil made it through four lanes without a single car/truck touching it. Not so sure I'll dive into traffic next time...
