Let's use tomorrow's technology so that we can process information like they did in 1940? (Or 1740 for that matter.)
This has already been obsoleted by immersive 3D interfaces. Second Life is a good example of the immersive aspect - add in capabilities like Vista's ability to manipulate windows as three-dimensional objects and you have a big step forward.
The next big step in user interfaces will be 3D browser interfaces and the 3D server extensions to support them.

I'll echo some of the sentiments posted on the YouTube comment section....

Another GUI gimmick with no practical use.
Count me out.
Wow that has got to be the most useless thing ive ever seen.
it's one of the sweetest interfaces I've ever seen - with some pretty schnazzy functions - BUT.... it just doesn't seem practical ---- yet. If I had something like that, I would probably spend more time playing with it than actually doing work!!

Me, too. What I'm more interested in is the use of 3d space to find/sort/retreive/categorize, etc. This is all clearly a conceptual mockup, but it's pretty interesting. I think with the mulit-touch screens and input devices that are on the way, things like this will be more likely and practical. Like the UI in Minority Report or the 3rd Matrix, a direct interface (as opposed to representational interface--like the mouse) is logical and efficient.
Fun stuff in the future!

totally - not sure if you've seen this vid. yet, but it's pretty sweet and speaks to where this kinda technology is headed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUAnwbooNOsFinally! A technology that has a very strong potential to replace keyboard/mouse interfaces. The photo organization was amazing. Imagine doing album designs with this!!

it woudl be cool if the size of the document was represented by how thick it was.
Or more popular docs could be a bit bigger.

Yeah! Those are minor tweaks that could be done easily. I'm just interested in watching the different models of information organization emerge.
