I'm getting a new blu site, and am working on a new logo to go with it. I love the fleur-de-lis, but I am trying to stay as simple as possible. I'm just tired of looking at it now, and would appreciate any comments...good or bad! Thanks!

one idea:

change the script to the same serif font (all caps), make it much smaller than the business name and spread out the letters to match the width of the business name.

It made me wonder, do you specialize in fine art photography and weddings or do you classify your wedding style as fine art. Maybe it's just me. Also, I would also be interested in seeing the bottom line in a different font (style and scale).

Good luck!

Thanks so much Steve & Jen for your suggestions - I tried to do as ya'll suggested and like it much better! Jen - we only do wedding photography, so I guess that would be our "style" - or morever that is what we are working towards! wink.gif

Here's my quick response to your logo, sorry if it hurts!

Nothing wrong with simple, I'm a big fan. But what I think you've created looks simple in the amateur way, not in the sophisticated way.

Your mark looks like clip-art. I'd prefer nothing to a piece of clip-art or a character from a dingbat font. I think you should either hire a designer or just keep the mark off.

I like the font you used for the biz name. It looks like Centaur to me, is it? Anyway, ALL CAPS IS DIFFICULT TO READ, is there a reason you are choosing to do that?

DWR seems industrial and cold, like IBM. Why go with something industrial when you're trying to create a fine-art feel?

I disagree that your positioning statement has to be spread out and match the size of the top section. Before (version 1), it had some nice shape to it--symmetrical without being blocky, now (version 2) it's starting to feel like a shoe box. I also wouldn't put it in the exact same font as the biz name, as you did in version 2. The script font you had was difficult to read and spaced poorly in v1, though. Again, you've gone to all caps. I'd only recommend going with all caps if you understand design rules and when to break them.

Looking closely, nothing really lines up. The line doesn't extend to the actual width of the text. The positioning statement doesn't really line up with the biz name. Computers make it pretty easy to make things exact, it just takes a smidge of time.

All in all, I'd recommend you hire someone. You can find someone without spending thousands. There are even several designers on this forum (hopefully, I won't get flamed for suggesting members in the forum purchase services from one another). While you may be able to tweak this idea and get it better, you'll not (in my opinion) ever be able to make it remarkable because you are not a designer.

Kevin,

Thanks for the honest response. That is why I posted it up here - when I show it to family & friends, they are always like, oh it looks great! But they don't know any more about logos than I do, which is nothing! smile.gif So I really appreciate your post - all very, very good points. Well I am now convinced - I need to hire an expert. I should have learned my lesson with our website - we are photographers not web designers. or logo designers smile.gif

So with that said, would it be wrong to ask anyone on here if they know of someone who I can hire? (The kind that doesn't charge thousands?) blink.gif

Of course it's not wrong! You'll probably get all kinds of referrals.

I design logos in the $150-300 range.

Nice stuff.

Hiring a professional can be less expensive if you have a good idea of what you want but unable to execute it (that's what they get paid for).

Agreed! If I've said it once, I'll say it again - let's leave the designing up to designers! I would take the time that you are spending on your logo and put that into researching and trying to find the best deal on a logo designer. wink.gif

This girl http://www.steiert-design.com/ did mine. She is awesome and will really work and work to get it just like you want it. And her prices are very reasonable.

Thanks everyone for the help & referrals! I have contacted Shaun to hook me up with a logo. I am learning there are just some things you don't chimp on and try to do yourself. And what can be more important than our image? It's funny - we give that same spill to our clients about wedding photography - that is not an area you want to skimp on, b/c your images are all you will have to remember your day. I just needed to be reminded of that myself!!!

you could try threepaperpigs.com - email the designer. she's really great, i love my logo, got EXACTLY what i was looking to create without really knowng where to start. she also told me to let my photographer friends know she is doing a lot of promotional specials for photographers specifically. Take care!
